so my parts car is almost ready to go to the scrap heap but i want to pull the windshield and rear side glass before it goes (its going to a metal recycler, and they just smash the glass out). I've never removed anything like this before. Any suggestions? (no i don't really want to pay a glass guy to come do it, the cheapest quote i got was like $125).
ps: its a s13 hatch if that makes any difference.

Those rear quarter windows are a pain in the ass to take out. I attempted to take mine out by following some tips that I had read here zilvia. The result....thousands of tiny glass pieces all over my back seat and garage floor. I had a professional glass guy come out and remove the other, it took him over an hour and he said in his 15 years of doing windows, this one was possibly the most difficult. But I will tell you what I know, there is one nut that needs to be removed on the inside of the car behind the trim panels, then u need to somehow find the long knife razor blade looking thing the glass guys use to cut the urethane that glues the window to the car. There are also some plastic push in pins that stick into the car that are impossible to save, so just cut those too. I have heard that there is also some kind of spray that glass guys can use that simply eats away the urethane glue, but I have no idea where to get it or how to use it. Here it is in a nutshell for you....Remove the nut from inside the car, get a sharp ass knife, cut around the window and remove. Oh yea, the rubber weatherstrip around the window is NOT removable or replaceable so DO NOT damage it if you plan to sell it. (That right there makes the whole process extremely difficult). I can take some close up pictures for you of the car without the window and the backside of the window if you want.

Windshields are tough to get but you can buy a kit with a wire like saw to cut it out And i believe the hatch quarter glass has studs through the car holding it in plus sealer.

the quarters i'm not so worried about, but the windshield is pretty new and super clean (no nicks or chips) so i'd way rather save that.

Okay I took some pictures for you.
This is the right window frame, you can see the holes where the plastic push in thingys are and you can also see where the glue is all around the perimeter.

This is the left window frame, you can see the same holes, but also the the little metal thingy in there that has a nut on the otherside that I never took out. Prolly had something to do with why that window broke.

And this is the backside of the right window. Here you can see where all the plastic push in thigys were that my glass guy just obliterated.

Atleast now you will know what your up against.

Yaaaaa...... a friend and I were taking his car apart last night so we can chop it up and recycle it. For fun we tried to take all the glass out with a flat head and a piece of metal wire. (it didn't work) I cracked the windshield with the flat head trying to make a hole in the sealant and he shattered the quarter glass when he tried to start the wire in the back corner. I would definetly get someone experienced to help you.

I had a glass guy remove all my glass for paint.Everything but the windshield made it. If I was going to scrap a car I would try it. Let us know how it goes.

with the rear windows u saw the sealant out with paino wire, using a sawing motion heats it up and it cuts through the sealant, its a total bitch to get the wire through

Front you remove the rubber trim on the top and sides. Then remove the wipers. The plastic tray around the wipers. cut a clothes hanger up and use it as a hot needle thru the urethane. Then pull a wire window remover thru and use it to cut.

They also make a special knife to cut the window out. but it takes more skill to the angle. usually won't find it in the store cause it will shatter tempered side and rear windows when not held correctly.

True. I've got a glass cutter and I've tried it on dozens of cars, the windshield usually breaks unless you're dead on perfect with it. Quarter glass is a little easier if it's heated first, but it's still a gamble. I've successfully removed maybe 60% of the glass I've attempted.

If I were you I would have someone professional to do it.

My uncle has been doing windshields for like 20 years and half the time they can break them, even if it is in perfect shape.

Many times there are also tiny little chips that you cannot see at all unless your eye is like an inch away from the window. Those chips will most likely make your windshield break when you take it off due to the weight of the windshield pulling down.

best way to remove quarter windows is to take an old sawzall blade and sharpen it with a grinder....use that to make the initial cut into the glue...then use an old hood release cable or trottle cable (just the wire) to cut the sealent
