ok so i have a situation and i was wondering if any of you guys have had a similar issue or know of someone who did

i got a ticket for no front plate a couple of weeks ago, i know of all the places to get it signed off but my question is, i have a front end and there is absolutly no place to mount the front plate, and i am not gonna put wholes in it to screw it in, would it be possible to use double sided tape to hold it down until i get it signed off, would they trip? or do you guys have another idea that would work without them hassling me? thx for any help in advance

mines are explosives...learn english...its "MINE"

anyways...you can use double sided tape if you want, they shouldnt care HOW its mounted to the front of your bumper, just as long as its there...use that to get the ticket signed off. some dealerships sell brackets that mount in the grill portion of the bumper so you dont have to drill holes into your bumper

^^ haha. But i know how frustrated you must be not wanting to drill up your bumper. I made a bracket from some metal strips from Lowes that made an L shape. the L allowed me to drill under the bumper and not into the front. SO the plate hung a little low but was nice for gatherings, b/c i could just take off the bracket and you couldn't see the holes at all.
--But good luck bud !!! :)
--p.s. i did use double sided tape for a ticket once, went to court and everything, the cop checked it out and said that it was fine. But that's VA so who knows...

hmmm i was told that zipties/tape/whatever were not acceptable... it had to be screwed / bolted on...

that's what they said when i got my fix-it for front plates at least...

ya, thats what i was thinking about doing, but the problem is that my bumper is fiberglass so i am afraid of not chiping it or snaping it with a zip tie, and the grill portion of my bumper only has one piece runing across the middle, so it that snaps i am screwed, it would mean that all the stress would run on it...thx though

My bumper is fiberglass.

I bought premade predrilled L brackets from Home Depot (~$1-2).

Used nuts and bolts to connect this to bumper, from underneath (see passenger side vent). If I removed the brackets, the holes wouldn't show (cause they are underneath).

Then you can connect your plate to that. I use zipties, but just bolt it if that's what the inspection requires.

And seriously guys, just put your front plate on ALL THE TIME if you daily the car.

If running without a plate outweighs getting pulled over, then please continue as you were.

werd like logan says.

Call me weird but I like how my front end looks with the zealous license plate brackets.

yea i got pulled over on new years, and the cop could have totally screwed me over, but he let me off with just a fix it ticket for not having a front plate. i dont know about you guys, but the cops that pull me over here in oakland usually have better things to deal with, so from my experience, i've just had to b nice and i usually get let off with just a fix it ticket. Hell.. ill take a $10 ticket over any other ticket, any day of the week!

Logan is right...just do it permanently. Def worth saving the money in tickets ,and saving time in overall hassell. You can even buy those fold-a-way brackets that you mount the same way you would the L bracket, but they have a hinge so you can fold it up under the bumper, and it snaps into place. As far as your fiberglass issue...i've allways dealt with urethane...but i do know how bad a stress crack can suck when you are dealing with fiberglass...hmmmm i suppose drill carefully and mount firmly, maybe with rubber grommets allong with the nuts to hold the bracket in place to alleviate stress??? I don't know...But good luck bud!!

ya i am most likely gonna figure out a way to put it on just for the sign off, and then mount it on permenantly with the L brackets you guys are talking about...thx for the help, BTW when he pulled me over, my car wasnt registered, no insurance, and no proof i even purchased the vehicle lol, it was the day after christmas so i did get a break since i told him i bought it a few days go and DMV's werent open lol, but ya, best thing to do is be hella nice with them and always obey their safety ;), i worked with a former police officer over the summer as a personal driver...so he told me that is the best way to avoid hassle and tickets, i can give you guys step by step instruction lol, it works wonders

Yeah, not running with front plates is dumb unless you have nothing to be worried about. I try to have my car if on the street have everything visual because cops will look for any reason to pull you over than pop your hood.

Plus if the same cop pulls you over and sees that you still don't have a front license plate, the can write you a ticket for no front plate and mark it non correctable. Then the fine will be higher.

Trust me, it's possible.

What if you don't have a front plate to put on?

I bought the car a few years ago and it didn't come with a front plate, only the rear. So my pignose doesn't have any holes. How do i defend/get a ticket like this signed off?

you can go get the second plate at the DMV, but they will most likely give you a new set

I received the ticket before.

I ziptied my front plate on and went to the CHP station out in Garden Grove (off the 22 freeway). The cop turned me down and said it has to be screwed on, and for me to not come back till its screwed down.

So I went to autobacs down the street, bought some plastic bracket that wasn't for my car (I couldnt find the right one, so I got what was closest) and screwed it on to my front bumper.

After I went back and got it signed off... my frekkin license plate fell off in the freeway :-/

For people reg'd in Cali what are the reasons for not using your front plate? If your running an I/C it could be mounting on the side or make a bracket and angle it in the front. And for those who have swap that are doing it is crazy IMO its just a reason for them to stop you.

Some states its in writing that you plate has to be perm affixed to your vehicle.

When you go to the marshall to write it off just be sure that it's securely on when they ask you to tug on it. Done

Suk02Si
01-20-2008, 09:10 PM
It must be securely bolted with at least two screws on the plate itself.

You have to have a front plate.

Period.

No ways around round it.

It is what it is.

Way to bring it back from the dead. Last post->Jan.08.

I had the same thing happen to me. No front plates on my 200sx. I had just gotten the car so I just screwed it onto the front bumper (I was selling the car ne way).

Went to the CHP office, they were real busy so the sheriff asked me if I had it on and if my car was parked outside. I said yea its there i put em back on. He just signed it off without going outside. I found that weird since I became all paranoid about the inspection of it.
