View Full Version : Cheating in school. By the teachers.

In 2005, every single fourth- and sixth-grade student at City Day Community School in Dayton, Ohio, flunked the math portion of a statewide assessment test. That landed City Day an "academic emergency" rating, meaning state intervention or even takeover. But 2006 brought a stunning turnaround: 100 percent of the school's seventh-grade class, and 59 percent of its fifth graders, passed. Same test, same kids. It seemed too good to be true—and it was.

So I never was one for school. I understand there are others that feel that way, but when the administration alters answers or just outright cheats on a test, WTF. Why does america seem to think its okay to do that kind of shit? JUST because they aren't doing their jobs teaching these asshats, they rig a statewide exam.
Maybe its just me, but I'd rather have my kid held back a year than simply passed because it makes the school look good.

a dude in my aircraft landing gear operation class was caught cheating on the exam and was failed and has to take the class over again after a 6 week suspension.
there was other people that were also cheating so he went to talk to the school director to tell him he wasnt the only one. everyone had to take the exam over but were only given a 75 (minimum grade needed to pass)
its stupid that the students that werent cheating were still fucked over cause of that douche that got caught. i went from an A to a C as did almost everybody else in the class.

School - Biggest business since Micro$oft.
State standardized tests = distribution of government funds. Higher you score, the more money you get. Does the school want more money? Yep!

I don't think Home Schooling is the only answer, but it is A answer.
Pretty sad this stuff even happens. So disheartening.

I think it shows how ridiculous standardized testing is. The information tested on is not useful in the least. They should test common sense and symple deductive reasoning if any thing.

Well yea, half of school honestly is learning about how to interact with people. I spent most of my college years networking and meeting people and building my social and professional network. Just get better teachers at all levels and I'm sure we'll get along just fine.
The other problem is that schools receive money based on how well they do on standardized tests, not how poorly. In essence, a school that scores lower on testing should receive more money, as obviously they need the money, no? Why are they putting schools in competition with each other with this kind of crap? That's the question I want to know.

to the original thread topic, that place is called Community school, so it sounds like a 2nd chance school for fawkups..
Im all for people needing education, ive meet people who dropped out of highschool and it shows in thier speech etc.. But again im with you guys, school seems to be a $$ business.. and it seems a college degree doesnt guarentee a high paying job. I know a few people who graduated from 4 year universitys and either jumped into a job that didnt require thier degree in biochemistry *my friend jumped into autosales* or just aint doing much.

my school paid for all my sats and psats because i got near perfect scores.
too bad i failed english class because i didn't show up.
I was a stupid fuck in high school.
I always laughed at exam reviews in school.
Lets go over all the answers that will be on the test the day before.
And people somehow still managed to fail.
One though per line because i don't really know how to use punctuation.

Private school vouchers sounds better.
fuck Public lower education imo. ( i went to private middle school/junior high and public high school for accelerated acadm.)
Ive had experience with both.
I believe there is a place for public higher education however.

Im honestly not suprised at all....the no child left behind act is bullshit and so are these tests....so much of the shit they teach now is geared specifically toward tests like MCAS(idk if other states have that) and other standardized tests....they often are worded terribly and can really fuck a lot of students and schools over....I went to public schools my whole life and anyone else who did too knows that the schools in this country are way underfunded....I live in a nice community and our buildings and supplies were still lacking....public schools in low income communities can really struggle and are forced to pass children in order to get any type of funding when it sometimes isnt an option...If any of you have seen it this is the exact same situation in the school system in the show The Wire

with or without nclb, the public school systems and government controlled education has always been a failure.
do some research, "liberal" democrats have only been liberal in fucking shit up since the 1950s with regards to education, Bush is a new liberal conservative which are basically democrats who cut taxes every once in a while and seek a pro-active foreign policy.
We need charter schools or vouchers, so your tax dollars don’t fund a fuckt and broken system, and so you have a choice for your children’s education.
I'll bet the house that even if no tests existed for extra funding those low income schools would still be pieces of shit. They were pieces of shit before Bush was in office and they only continued their down trend into shittiness after NCLB, so you can't blame it on that one specific recent and short-lived program. It needs to be viewed from "why has public education in this country steadily decreased since the department of education took over" duh!
I had a much more goal oriented and detail based education in private school. But high school was just too expensive for the family. By comparison the bleeding over of ideologies, indoctrination to liberal intellectual ideals as well as the feeling of community instead of self-pride became a burden for me as an individual brought up to be concrete in goals and focused. If my family had been able to get a voucher to help with the cost of a more rigid and goal oriented environment such as a private school I might have had a better chance at the ivy leagues.
The amount of crap that is tolerated by both students, faculty and parents in public schools in the name of liability, equality and well-roundedness was nauseating and a hindrance to clear intelligent goal setting and thought.
otherwise only the rich can afford a decent education. thanks democrats, a lot of good the policy of government funded department education did.

Too bad they couldn't do that on this test (this is 2004 but results are about the same every year).

Actually, this is incorrect. Schools actually get more money for the stupid kids. The reasoning? Stupid kids need more help and more resources to "help them learn" (i.e. more money) so they can pass the class. Then they turn around and help the students cheat on the exit exams so they can justify the resources being used, and so the school won't be overcrowded the next year with a bunch of idiots that couldn't pass.
It's a very lucrative business, the education system. But the teachers are not the ones getting paid. It's the school administrators and the people that work within the districts.

if you aren't a dumbfuck you can learn almost all of a highschool curriculum in like 3 months on your own if you have textbooks
its not that hard to fucking read
here's to another reason why our country is failing at everything
i'll be sending my kid to a good private school, public high schools are bullshit

school's primary task is not teaching.
it's giving kids something to do besides working.
college is for teaching
if all high school graduates were management material, who would scrub toilets and flip burgers?
let there exist dumb kids and dumb schools.

yes, but high school is to help prepare you for higher education and to teach good habits
dumb teachers aren't doing shit in this category
especially if the teachers themselves are doing the cheating
