i was thinking of doing this because i bought a 90 hatchback that has front end damage. i was going to buy a front clip to replace the section of frame and drop a sr20 in it. it's my project car so i was thinking of making it a rhd since i have to cut and weld some of the front anyways. also does anyone know if the conversion is legal for auto-x?

have any of you wondered why cars in north america are left hand drive in the first place???
I'd love to be there the first time a cop pulls u over and checks out your work, I'm sure he'd be super impressed.

No need to rip the guy...it's his project car not yours. I don't think anyone has done the rhd conversion here at zilvia. Do a search, but I don't think anyone has done it.

I think we've been down this road with the mailmen and everything else. I think the verdict was that unless you brought the car from overseas or were a USPS mail carrier, RHD was a no-no.
Mark - who thinks its stupid too.
yes, I know we all agree it's pointless, but if you're SERIOUS about it, try dropping davies2k a PM. His shop, JDM Recycler in El Monte, CA, does RHD conversions.

thanks for the serious response tyler, and doing the conversion was just a thought. even if i do the conversion it's not because it is "pHattY jdM yO", it's because it is something different that you don't see very often. and if you want to flame at me(jonathanvolk)than i suggest you come down to florida and try runnin off at the mouth to my face.

We're gonna take this one way off topic real quick.
I can agree with you on this, but converting to rhd is far from ricey...may be pointless, but not ricey. He just asked a simple question as to who has done it would just take a quick answer of nay or yay.
Cliff notes:
Ricey = flameable
Reasonable Questions = reasonable responses
Not trying to start an arguement...just stating what should be.

There's actually a very good reason to do it. It's called bigger turbos. The steering column gets in the way, so you have to do a bunch of custom work to get a hugeass turbo to fit.
OTOH, it'd probably cost just as much to make the turbo fit.
I was considering doing it myself for awhile, but it's too much trouble... trouble with the cops, trouble with safety issues (especially if you're like the guy who's doing it on his S14 who posted on FA, he's swapping firewalls), and it's an issue also if you just cut holes in your existing firewalls (ie. if you don't mount everything up properly, particularly your steering column).
Besides, you can spend all that money on a T67 and a huge FMIC...
Also, IIRC, RHD is perfectly legal (note the "*if* I recall correctly)-- RHD cars that are imported and don't meet DOT safety standards, are not.
Anyway, FWIW, I don't see it as being "Ricey" at all -- how many converted Civics do you see?

Well shoot, I'll call it ricey.
Definition 1: Ricey = tacky. It is tacky. It is showing off the the sake of showing off. It involves a LOT of extra work just to look "different."
Definition 2: Ricey = modification of the car with a non-functional or lower performing part just to be different and/or make the car look like something it is not. RHD will not help your driving in any way. It will not make you faster. It will likely make you slower - due to re-learning to drive on that side of the car and learning to overcome years of education in shifting with your right hand. It will also be more dangerous in traffic as North American roads are designed to be driven on the left hand side. I have no clue about the structural issue above - but cutting a unibody is never a good idea.
As for that shlock about fitting a bigger turbo... Many have done it by simply purchasing a different manifold. A log style mani will allow you to fit a watermelon size turbo in there so you can run drag passes to your heart's content. At a MUCH lower cost than a RHD conversion.

note for the mentally deficient:
-This is called "sarcasm"
He said nothing in his post about turbo clearance, he wants this for jdm points… Our cars are left hand drive for some pretty good reasons, not the least of which is safety, if someone is modifying their car in such a way that would endanger themselves and other drivers just for looks I call that rice.
All of you defending this idea for no better reason than appearance (how this looks better is beyond me...) better run over to best buy and grab up all them type R badges before they run out...

well, since any informational info went out of this thread many many posts back, i'm gonna say, MODERATOR PLEASE LOCK THIS THREAD.
Seriously guys, it's his car, let him do what he wants, as long as he doesn't bring his car near me (I'm fine with RHD, it's welding a clip to the unibody that freaks me out, have fun aligning the car).

thanks for the serious replies to the people who made them. and for the people who want to flame at me, i wasn't thinking about converting my 240 to rhd because it's "jdm", i am to sick of the jdm craze, but thats what happens when a company makes a sportscar in japan and we get the watered down version in america. it's just people trying to get there cars as close to the way they were supposed to be made. and if you want to call me ricey because i want to drive on the right side for a change, then so be it.

it's in the tech section, it may escape the view of the mods. aside from the many replies to the topic.
i'm gonna have to side with Adrock on this one. not becuase i care about whatever the topic is, but becuase the Beastie Boys rule.

I you still in persuit of converting your S13 please drop me a line. We have been converting rhd vehicles for a number of years now. If anything the cars converted are safer then the OEM counter parts. We do not cut firewalls nor add extra whole to fit certain lines. To put it in a nutshell we use the OEM weldspots to perfectly align the car back to OEM specs. Call me direct for pricing... Complete swap will take approx. 1.5/2 weeks.

I've driven a RHD car on the street, its cool for like 2 seconds, then it BLOWS nuts.....my old job was to keep tune, and maintain and etc. a collection of british sports cars(what eventually turned me on to the 240) and one was RHD...the only way I'd own one would be a skyline:)

You know there is few people in the US that have a rhd car much less a 240 but in Japan every one has one of course...but give this a look or 2...just tear everything out and make it centered...now how many 240's you see like that?! LOL
