So I was driving back from school yesterday and the steering wheel kept shuddering so I'm like I'll just get home and fix it. Well anyway I was on the highway and all of a sudden I heard a shattering sound and lost some break pressure but pumping brought it back. I looked when I got to Autozone (these are 300zx brakes by the way) and the brake pad had shattered!. I assume maybe a warped rotor did it maybe. Well anyway I'm going to put the four lug back on cause I have to anyway so I put the 5 lugs on the race 240. I was wondering if it was ok to run the 300zx master cylinder with the stock brakes for a while? Is there any downfall to that? I mean I'll swap it out with the stock 240 master cylinder this weekend but the master cylinder swap is a pain while I'm in school. Thanks in advance for all the help.

the brake bias will change with using the z32 master cylinder. Off the top of my head, no downfall, just something to get used to.

Right now I'm probably just going to get a new set of rotors and pads so that it's drivable. When the pad broke I lost pedal pressure until I pumped them. Could that be from the broken pad or do you guys think the caliper might have got damaged? Thanks in advance.

When the pad shattered, you had to pump the pedal because the caliper was pushing the caliper piston out to take up that space that was once occupied by the pad. Once that space is gone, your pedal pressure should be fine. The only thing you may want to look at is the pistons on your brake caliper to see if any were damaged by touching the brake rotor. If you stopped almost immediately, there should be no problem at all.

z32 master cylinder on s13 brakes should be fine, but I imagine that they will be pretty touchy.

You'll lock your brakes up like no other... I hope you know how to use a brake pedal...

You were using duralast/vatozone pads and rotors on your 300z brakes weren't you? Shame on you!:rant2: Duralast parts are good for nothing but paperweights! Seriously though I would not reccomend that you leave the 300z master in there with youe stock brakes. Instant lock-up = instant death!

What really happened was that one of the back calipers locked up throwing off a cylinder grinding the rotor to death in the back. So I replaced that caliper and pads and rotors in the back of the car. Now my other problem is that my ceramic pads (EBC Red Stuff Pads) are grinding through my stock 300zx front brake rotors which does make sense. So I'm going to swap them out and hopefully all these brake problems will go away.
