Hey guys, I have a question here. Well I was wondering if getting an intake system is worth it (Injen Intake)? My mods are header, pulley, exhaust, and plugs and wires. I dont really mind getting one if I get around 5-6 hp gain (can get it for a cheap price). I currently run on a stock cut open intake box should I just leave it at that? I did do a research tho most ppl say it not worth it because only 1-2 hp gain?!!? This is a DD driven car, so not planning to boost and need to pass smog. Thanks.

I don't know if you can get that much gain on your setup.

If you want it to be pretty under your hood, get it.
If you dont care... then fuck it. you already cut out the air box, thats good enough.

Don't get an Injen one. Buy a K&N conical filter and tack it onto your stock plastic pipe. If you want the pretty piping, get an Ebay pipe for $20 shipped.

^^ haha i ordered a ebay intake pipe back in the day. it looked like someone decided to beat the crap out of something with it and used gorilla glue to secure the vacuum nipples. but for the price I paid, it was kind of worth it. ended up cutting it up and using it for something other than an intake. o yeah, and the filter sucked, i think the ups guys stepped on it.
and for woohaa. it's not worth spending $100+ for a "cold air" intake setup from injen or whoever. cause that aluminum piping sits on top of the radiator anyway, take The Chad's advice and put the k&n filter on the existing piping homie and enjoy the cool air sucking sound. :bigok:

^^ Ha sooo true, anything laying on something labeled "do not open HOT!!!" will never really be cold at all :). I was once young and wanted the cool new thing (Injen intake with cold air piping) totaled that car about 7 years ago and have been buying "worth While" parts ever since. Save the $400 and put toward piecing together a turbo kit, or preparing your car for being forced induction, i.e.: Bigger brakes, Viscous LSD, or even some suspension fun :) . Let me know what you decide, i always like seeing new builds. :)

My friend's B16 EG6 actually gained 2.X WHP on unknown Oki dyno by removing the air filter....

Gains from intake really depends on the car, how restrictive the stock intake is, and where the filter is mounted. For most cars, you will not notice that much gain from just an intake.
Also, on some cars you actually lose power with an aftermarket intake, e.g. Evo.
If you really want to dial in your car, you need a dyno and at least a piggyback if you don't want to reflash your stock ECU. Or you can go with a standalone.
Other than that, any intake should do provided it's mounted securely and the filter is clean.

I don't know if it will pass smog but you can try what I am doing, relocate the battery and put the filter on the passenger side a few inches from the throttle body. The generic write-up is on NICO I think. I'm cutting up an Ebay intake a friend had laying around and going that route. I don't have a SMOG check like most of you do so I know nothing about the laws you have to follow.

I'm with you on this one. Cut the airbox and put in a k&n filter. Those after market intakes are worthless on ka's. Save your money.

My car had one of those Stillen velocity stacks on it with a big honkin filter. I thought I would get a intake ONLY for the sound it makes.....so now I have a shiny piece of pipe that doesn't do shit. It doesn't even make the sound like everyone elses. lol
