I was just wondering how may of you guys smoke. and if you do have you ever tried quitting? what happened? did it work or not and what kind of method did u use to stop.
my story is that at the age of 22 yrs old I smoke 1/2 a pack a day. I enjoy smoking and I haven't hade any health problems to really give me the umph to stop. so I work at a hospital and they offer a program for employees to stop smoking and they provide you with all the medications available for free, so I said to myself what the heck let me give it a shot. so everything said and done I left the place with the nicotine patches, nicotine gum, and some weird inhaler thing, and I must say its really working. 1 week strong and not one smoke!!

tried countless times...unfortunately/ironically, smoking more than i have now than ever in my life (about 15 cigs to 1.5 packs a day; 1.5 to 2 packs on crazy weekends, lol)...i just keep count each day to make myself feel better (like it helps/matters)...cant kick it if you have a certain lifestyle/surrounding...its gotten bad enough to the point where my mom bought me some nicoderm cq from costco...
ive looked up a book that has had hundreds of great reviews...readers claim that they stopped right away and never think about it again...i think its BS, but if you want the pdf format of it, i can send it to you...

yeah, i dont look for ppls sympathy...thats why i rarely openly discuss my many additions...just some ppls chemistry is more susceptible to being addicted to exterior substances...instead of knocking them, ive only picked up a few more addictions over the years...tsk tsk tsk...

I've tried to quit as well. After 4 or 5 days without a smoke I get really agitated and irritable, followed by being sick for about 2 or 3 weeks. Then I go into work and get really stressed and start smoking, since half my department smokes and is more than happy to give me smokes to calm me down :P

Rule one for quitting:
Quit because you want to and no longer feel the need to smoke. Don't quit because of outside pressure or because you think it's whats acceptable. You have to honestly want to quit before you can even begin to take on this task.
I know of people that have had success with chantex, but the medication had the side effect of serious depression.
Drinking and smoking go hand and hand. Stay away from the sauce and this will help curb your urge to smoke. This is just my advice and it's different for everyone.

One night I went to get in bed and felt out of breath, decided right then to stop smoking. The hardest part was not going outside with my friends the next day to smoke, just had to break the whole routine of it.
It was harder for me to quit smoking weed than it was to quit smoking cigs :p

My parents had been smoking since they were 15, They're 45 now. They quit smoking instantly ever since my little sister was born. My mom quit when she found out she was pregnant and my dad quit when she was born.

It is interesting to hear of addiction because this is what I am studying in a class of mine right now. It is really all about mental power. Even effects of withdrawl can be reduced. I smoked for a while up to 2 packs a day then I realized that it was affecting my life so I just threw the pack in the trash and did it. The only problem is that you have to have the motvation to stop.

I used to smoke about a pack of Marlboro Red per day for about 12 years, exactly one year ago I went cold turkey and have been cigarette free since. Good luck to those out there that are trying to quit. Quitting is not hard, its all about how bad do you want to quit versus how bad do you still want to smoke.

I don't smoke, but I found this thread pretty interesting for some reason. I drink and party, but have always refused to smoke anything. I want to blow smoke rings and French inhale though..
I heard that each cig takes away 10 minutes of your life in health class. Call it bull shit. I don't care. Your life is not mine. But, that was all the convincing I needed. Life's precious as it already is.
Best of luck to everyone trying to quit.

I think it was 1 minute per cigarette, not 10.
Just think of it this way. For every cigarette you smoke, that's 1 minute less that I have to spend in a nursing home being neglected by my kids.

..I guess it's 11.
You probably already know that smoking shortens your life. Do you know how much?
Every cigarette you smoke shortens your lifespan by about 11 minutes. That's according to British researchers who calculated the effect of a lifetime of smoking, then the number of cigarettes generally smoked in a lifetime. The average came out to 11 minutes. That may not seem like a lot of time, but think of it this way: If you smoke only five cigarettes today, you've shortened your life by almost an hour. A carton a day equals about a day and a half.
Unfortunately, today's young people don't seem to be looking at the long term. The American Heart Association reports that smoking is on the rise among teens in the United States. During the 1990s, the number of teens who smoke rose nearly 30 percent. If the trend continues, experts believe we'll see a sharp rise in smoking-related illness in the next 20 years or so and on into the century.
Doctors at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas say this trend is alarming, especially in light of all the information we have today about the hazards of smoking. Either young people aren't getting the message or they don't believe it. Eleven minutes doesn't seem like much when you're young, but those minutes all add up. Stopping smoking is one thing you can do that is just about guaranteed to help your health.

I stand corrected, except I'm sitting...
Hell even better, now we're taking off the last year or two of my life based on how much I've smoked. No more nursing homes, impotence, etc!
(incase its not obvious, I am joking :P)

you just have to make up your mind to quit and do it. Not being able to is a sign of weakness, you have to be stronger than the stupid paper wrapped grass clippings....good luck though.
By the way, lose the bold button
