im lookin for a good rebuild kit in my quest i cam across one by AMS....but it retails for over $1700(http://www.amsperformance.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=24_62_304&products_id=303) just wondering if anyone here has done one and what kinda numbers they got out of it......

also wondering the other side of the coin, could i peice together a decent kit and save some cash......

i am rebuilding a stock KA with 150k it is my DD and i will eventually wanna turbo but for bugget reason i will have to run NA for awhile so i wanna focus on internals.....

this being my first 240 i wanna do it right but im sure you guys know more about these motors and what is avalible aftermarket, so other than the AMS kit and other parts what are you sugestion for

Pistons
Rods
Rod Bearings
Head Studs
Gaskets
Valves
Valve Springs
Cams

also what kinda WHP numbers will i be looking at with this kind of build up, if i missed anything please hook me up i have no ego and an open mind.......

thanks for the input

If you want to rebuild & you're on a budget, you should reuse stock KA parts.

For example, what I would do:

Pick up a spare KA block, and tear everything down. Reuse pistons, rods, crank (assuming they are all good). Have the machine shop clean/surface the pistons if needed. Block honed as well.
Stock headgasket, Fel pro gasket set, stock rod bearings & main bearings.
S13 cam swap if you really want. I think ARP headstuds & mainstuds aren't much more expensive than stock hardware.

Optional: Have your rods shot peened, crank polished.
Spend the extra money on a good clutch & lightened flywheel, possibly a 1pc driveshaft.

Why?
1. Good on a budget. rebuild minus block is about $300- 400 if i'm not mistaken.
2. Many guys have shown the stock KA to be able to handle 350+ whp on stock internals, one guy DD's his 500~ hp stock KA.
3. You'll learn alot.

I would get a spare block.

*Arias 8.8:1 Compression Ratio. Size after block teardown.
*Stock rods shot peened
*Bearings see if your engine builder can get them for cheap, dunno what size till you have the work done.
*ARP head and main studs
*cometic head gasket. Takes a excellent finish to seal.
*Nissan or Felpro gaskets
*OEM 120k rebuild kit http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=240SX-TBKITC2
* Stock sized valves if you need them. oversized is a lot of money to port the bowls for little gain. will most likely just need a cleaning and new guides/seals.
* Supertech Springs. They are all made by the same company.
*Crower(BC) V2 Cams. Will give good gains na and turbo.

Should be good to 400-500hp depending on tune.

not that im not listening but i think i might hust go with the AMS Kits cause it seems pretty solid and most of the components are the same that you are recomending, withthe exception that i get some nice rods and rod bearings....in addition i will pick up the supertech valves springs posibly a new set of valves and the crower cams aswell.....what about injectors fuel pump etc or anyother components that most be upgraded to keep up???? speaking of tuning im in south florida any recomondations.....Performace Factory in orlando seems to be pretty reputiable

and not to kick a dead horse but what kinda nmbers do you guys think i might pull off with this running NA??? as im thinking i better spend the money i have on the motor and couple thousands mile down the road hook my self up with some BOOST!!!!

It's all about the $ you have to spend and your HP numbers.
If you've got $ to spend, then go with forged parts.
If not, then don't.
Stock internals should be good up to ~350whp with a good tune.
S14DB's list would be good for much more.

If you're running N/A then you don't need injectors.
If you turbo then obviously you're going to need more than stock 270's.

If you run N/A on stock rebuilt you're going to get factory HP.
Rebuild with low comp pistons?
Lower than stock HP.

Revving up high?
Get valvesprings and build your top end.

and you know this, maang

Rods are expensive and not needed unless you are shooting for 500+ hp. if you are shooting for over 400 there is so much more you should do during the buildup. For the cost of good rods you can get the cams and valve springs.

Replacing valves is expensive. Replace the guides and seals.

Fuel Pump, injector, fpr fall into tuning. we can have a whole convo about that too. depending on your goals.

Never heard of Performance Factory. 350z, g35 and titans is a whole biz? I would stay away from CFT and goto aerocomp. http://www.aerocompracing.com/

Good engine builder is PCC Auto in Kissimmee. They have built some high hp motors in FL and know their shit.

don't skimp out on the engine management. i have read how people spent hundreds on the engine and yet got some half ass engine management and they wonder why the motor failed.

^why?

Your numbers are not going to change because of buying parts from differant places. Either of the places kits will do just fine for you. Your budget is the main focus you should be looking at. And then you power goals should fit your budget. A built head is not needed, you can rev higher and get more power from cams but it costs more $$$

Save your money from the rods/cams/valve train. for a good E/M system and good quality parts for your fuel and turbo setups. Then down the road you can upgrade those if it becomes in the budget or you brake rods from power.

If you are just rollin in the cash and money is not an option go full out.
