can u restore/replenish cracked rubber bushings

sooo is there a reliable way to restore or replenish old cracked dry rotted rubber bushings? for example the rubber dampener bushing on an s13 driveshaft with 6 bolts... not the carrier bearing! i keep ripping thru them like butter. and nissan does not sell them seperatly from the driveshaft so i have been buying new ones from salvage yard and or random people online. currently i dont have the money to buy a driveshaft shop driveshaft soo i was hopeing someone would have an answer so maybe this one will last a lil longer till i get a new driveshaft made.

might i suggest an aluminum 1 piece drive shaft? i effing LOVE mine.
i don't know any way of bringing life back to damaged bushings.

no way to restore cracked bushing... just replace it.
on ds though... just get 1pc! I love my aluminum ds!!

You can put grease on a dryrotted bushing, but that is a short term TEMPORARY fix. Look for a prothane bushing, they are made out of polyurethane and last much longer than rubber bushings

sorry for getting off topic in this thread but you guys dont experience any bad vibration with 1pc driveshafts?...i heard somewhere it does depending on the brand....but then again i could be wrong

you can fill it in with some polyurethane compound, or use a 2 part mix similar to body glue only get the stuff that drys rubbery... but like everyone said, buy a 1 piece! their only 300 bucks now, and i'm sure you've spent that in time, money, and effort installing and buying 3 or 4 stock pieces already....

To the OP... Would it be possible for you to take the bushing to a machine shop and have them machine you a solid aluminum piece?

i have a very minor vibration with my 1pc driveshaft. not enough that it bothers me at all.

I hate my one piece, its for sale if anyones interested.

With SOLID EVERYTHING in my car, the D.S. does not make for a streetable car afaic.

If your DS is causing vibrations It is probably not properly balanced. There are lots of cars that come with 1 piece driveshafts from the factory.

I have not got my driveshaft in the car yet. Well, doesnt drive cause its winter. If it make shit shake and rattle, I will be a very unhappy customer.

I have a 1 peice drievshaft shop alum driveshaft in my s14....didnt notice any change in vibrations when I installed it.

I have a one piece in my '78 Z28 and when i did the 5speed swap i had to shorten the driveshaft and it vibrated TERRIBLY, i sent it off to get balanced and......... NO MORE VIBRATION.

werd...I remember a friend of mine used that poly uerethane compound stuff on his subframe bushings....he was too cheap to buy a bushing set ..lol...dunno if it made any difference. I'll have to ask him.

I've got a 1piece steel driveshaftshop ds and it works great, no vibration problems here.

Not really. A one piece driveshaft doesn't flex, your OE shaft doesn't need to either. JDM shafts don't even use that bushing at all, it's the same design as an S14. But the cost of machining a replacement bushing out of anything besides rubber would nearly equal a new steel one piece unit, so just replace it all.

my shit doesnt vibrate/rattle anything like that.

Its not a balance issue.

It reverberates with exhaust note on the highway cruising 5th gear....horrendous on long rides.

long downshifts when you let revs drop through the range, it sounds horrendous.

I might try filling it with foam or something, dunno yet.
