ok i qouted this from another forum that qouted this from an scca forum.. so i hope its not a repost
Hey guys and girls thought I would share with you what happened to
me yesterday.
I returned an urgent call to my insurance company (Geico) and they
informed me that as of the end of the month my insurance policy is
being cancelled. Why? I haven't had an accident. No moving
violations in several years.
The answer:
"We have found out that you have participated in time trial events."
I tried to reason with the lady, and explain to her that I haven't
even autocrossed with my Subaru (the car I have insured with them)
and that the SCCA has their own liability insurance for their
events. She told me it didn't matter there was nothing she could do
and that it was final as of 12:01 AM Jan. 28 2008 I would no longer
be covered.
I guess they searched results on the internet and found my name. I
have heard of this being a problem with warranties in the past but
after 4 years of autocrossing with my other company (Liberty Mutual)
I had never had a problem.
So I am writing here to warn all of you that if you have Geico,
cancel your policy now. They do not respect us for what we do, and
therefore I believe do not deserve a single dime from anyone.
I can see why they might hesitate with this issue as some people
can't leave it on the track, but the vast majority of autocrossers
are responsible enough to not do this. If anything we are lowering
the accident rate through improving our driving skills.

I've heard stories of people wrecking/breaking at the track then trying to create a scene on a public road where it looks like it was an accident so that they can have insurance cover it.
Even then, how many owners will wreck their car at the track then beg and plead with the insurance company to get the car covered?
If you were an insurance company, would you want to deal with that unnecessary risk and hassle?

I am not generally into agreeing with svensko, but he is making sense this time...
Most insurance companies around here, if they find out you're tracking your car, even at a dragstrip, will drop your ass quick fast.

Geico has zero respect from me, my policy was coming up for renewal and literally the next day I was to be point free. So after 6 years of having them, they decided I was to pay the next whole policy period as if the points were still on my license. I called up state farm and instead of paying $200 a month for just my vehicle, I pay $110 for two full coverage vehicles and renters insurance.

Thats insane, i cant beleive an insurance company would go to that much trouble. Do you think that they will pass that information onto other insurance companies that the person might try to use?

I hate insurance companies soooo much. Nasty scavengers sitting in their offices feeding off people however they can. Then they see someone tracks their car and they feel endangered that they may loose a couple thousand out of the millions they keep raking in monthly for doing nothing, so they drop the client who, if he didn't get in any wrecks, has been throwing his hard-earned money their way for absouletely nothing.
My car was on jacks, and I decided to suspend my policy for two months, because I knew I wouldn't be driving for about two months anyway, so I thought I'd at least save some money, I even explained it to them when I went up there and they said it was perfectly fine. When I got my car running I went back to reactivate my policy, and they charged me for "policy change" and it cost double what it would've cost me if I had been paying my insurance for those two months. None of them mentioned any fees when I was asking before, insurance companies are just scam artists protected by law.

First time hearing about this, so the insurance company goes around and look for your car on auto x/drag ect. listings?

My health insurance company knows I race, they just said they will not cover injuries obtained at a racing event. My Jeeps insurance company(State Farm) knows I race and is ok with it. The insurance I have on my 240 does not know I race and will not find out. Just like how its a SOHC auto still :) I talked to another local insurance agent that road raced his vette many times a year and he said if I have problems with my current insurance company and racing to come talk to him and he can take care of me.
When I get my car done and painted I am going to go to a custom insurance. Like having the car insured for X value.

Sounds like gobbledygook to me. "We've been tracking down our customers extra curricular activities via the internet". WTF ? :tweak:

I think there are some insurance companies that offer track insurance as an add on to your normal policy. However, I would probably try and make a case against them for profiling, invasion of privacy, etc :P
You'd probably lose, but you make your point :)
