Whats everybody's opinion on the 135i: 2door 3.0L twin turbo. 6speed, msport suspension, perfect 50/50 weight. the only down side.. no LSD!!!! but it does have sometype of active braking system that helps it keep traction on launches. base price $35675 base comes with all the above.

by far my favorite new BMW.

I like the 135 a lot personally, and i think it comes with really all the options you need for something comfy and sporting. you start adding options and the price goes up. I'd like take a stripper model with the Montego blue paint. That being said, as much as I like it, I would not trade my sti in for one.

as for the lsd, i think quaife already makes a helical diff for the e90/e92 335. I suppose there is a possibility the same diff may fit.

lol. what's new? almost every gen of bmw car (and pretty much every manucaturer out there) is going to get bigger, heavier, and more expensive. The progression is predicatable, and should not come as a suprise. To the M3's credit, at least it's still a great performer. I read one of the R&T (or maybe it was C&D?) reviews, and it performs very well. .98 on the skidpad, and 0-60 in 4.1 secs. Oh, yea and it also still makes over 100 hp/l on a N/A 4.0l V-8.

But hey, If you want something more along the lines of an older E36/E46 M3 inm termns of performance (and pricetag), the 135 may fit the bill a bit closer. The 135 would take my vote as the most desirable BMW...the main reason being I wouldn't be able to afford anything more expensive anyhow :P

the new aluminum v8 is lighter then the preious iron block 6, and is set farther back in the engine bay. and also revs to 8k+ rpms. i dont see whats not to like about that.

and the 1 series costs what a 335 did last year, they just jacked up the 335 by 2k this year. you can still get a 328 for cheaper.

in 2000 I was screaming for bmw to get away from NA inlines to turbos... now that they do.. they go with aluminum block etc and still.. still manage to make the car a small fat pig. It's just heavy.. and fat.. it wears through tires.. it eats brakes.. it forces it's way through a course...

BTW. Since when did bmw owners start this honda logic with HP/L. Only bmw and honda boys care about that... I've got a 400HP 4L v8.. ooooohhh ahhh it's in a 3600lb car though...... ahh bummer.... shame they took a f1 power plant and straped it to a lead sled.

I still think either the e30 m3 or the bmw 2002 were some of bmw's finest cars.. the steering is direct.. you can feel the suspension.. It's not harsh.. it's just responsive.. you have to drive the car.. there is no take your hands off the wheel... there's no drive with 2 fingers.. the gear shifts were long but smooth.. not short and knotchy.. you had to feel each shift because it wasn't always in the exact same place.. you could drive the car on its edge and it let you know when it had all it had.. it felt like the car gave 110% when you drove it.. just you and the car.. you were a team... now it's like a big ball of compromise.. bean counters and focus groups design cars.. They no longer have incredible visibility.. 5" a pillars ruin your view of the next upcomming corner.. they're no longer simple.. where a simple lever arm was.. an electrohydro mechanical stepper motor linkage is.. the gas pedal is no longer hooked to the engine... they no longer excite you.. they just lie there ready to do your bidding like mindless drones.. cold.. no soul.. some of the funnest moments I've had in my 1969 2002ti... are when it didn't do what I wanted it to do... it did something better..

oh i did not mean to imply that the e90/92 was undesirable. i was just replying to another poster's comments about the car.

I think the 335 is a great deal considering its bmw origins and the performance you get. there's nothing the other german co make that compare, 2k premium or not. the 328 isn't such a great deal imo considering the premium. 5k is worth the bi-turbo i-6 over the n/a version.

when looking at the 128 vs 135, the 135 comes with a lot of standard equipment, like hids, sport suspension, etc over the 128. the 128 isn't that cheaper when optioned out similarly to the 135. I still maintain that the 135 is THE bargain german hi-po car to have, just like the $37k Audi B5 S4 back in the day. 335 is nice no doubt, but it's softer and heavier. imo, the emphasis is more on comfort and room, whereas the 135 is less compromising hi-po (relative as a modren day production model bmw).

hey i like the orig 2002's and the e30's too. aesthetically, I find the E30 M3 most pleasing. but the fact of the matter is that it's a bit unlikely they'd build anything like that again. The 3 won't get smaller and lighter. maybe the closest thing they have would be the Z4. incidently 35k ish also can get you the base Z4, which is less powerful of course, but much lighter and smaller in dimensions. The Z2 is merely speculation atm.

Plus the m3 is much cheaper(after the 20k+ markup on the gtr), full back seat, std, na v8, bmw service, lighter, and like you said sleeker, which I agree with. The GTR is the king and on a whole other level, but most won't even use the m3, never mind the GTR, to it's fullest potential. I guess one could argue the GTR will let you drive to it's fullest potential much easier. Either way prices across the board are coming down all due to the GTR which is great.

seriously, i think bmw is going to make bank on the new m3. they have all the right compromises for commercial success. at 55k, you can bet it'll kill the competition from audi, mecedes, lexus, caddy, etc. GTR might be on a whole other lvl performance wise, but as you say few will be able to use much less appreciate the added performance of a gtr over the e90/92 m3.
