Cliff Notes:
One of the biggest mustang forums decided to make an 08 calendar like here in zilvia using car pictures of member's rides.

Outcome: According to Ford's lawyers, publishing pictures of your car is copyright infringement. They basically forced these guys from making a calender using pictures of THEIR own cars...:keke:

Way to go Ford, you're loosing the regular market, now your about to loose close to 10k of you're FAN-BASE. Anybody checked Ford's stock lately??? :loco:

This case could go either way in a courtroom....on the one hand it could be a tough sell for Ford but on the other hand I could see a judge ruling in their favor under certain circumstances. The idea that Ford is somehow the owner of the rights to the image of your car is ridiculous....unless it is stated somewhere in fine print burried in all the papers you sign when buying a new car....however, this is very unlikely since they would have no way to have such an agreement on used cars bought from individual sellers...So no contract like that with Ford makes for a tough argument. I could see a judge going in Fords favor and allowing the calendars to be published but not sold, only given away...as this could take away from potential profit for Ford....which is still a shit argument but high priced lawyers go a long way in a court room. This argument would only hold up if every major publication that uses Fords is approved by Ford or only uses Fords images or pays them royalties etc. Ford would have a difficult time proving that images of your car are their intellecual property...They may own the rights to the distribution of their image but I would imagine that this would only apply to photos that Ford itself took.....the converse argument then is that Ford is allowed to come to your house and photograph or even film a commercial using your car without having to get your permission...

Yea those are perfect Halo cars, but they are really showing they are serious right now with the Malibu. I challenge you to find a negative review about this car. It's nothing short of amazing what they have done with the redesign. They literally when from econo-rental-car-garbage to a no a if's, and's or but's about competitor to the Camry and Accord. What they've done to the Saturn line-up in 3 years has been spectacular. GM's interiors are now rivaling and exceeding that of MB,s BMW's, and Audi's. Anyone who is still hating on GM is the equivalent to the people Steve Shadows is talking about in his politics thread. The non-think-for-you-selfers. Or ignorant to what is going on in the industry. And the fact that Toyota may have dethroned the General after 76 years of being #1 is a non issue.

Actually the Caliber is a pretty nice car. I had one for a rental car for about a week this past summer, and I enjoyed it. It unfortunately had a CVT tranny, which felt kinda a wierd, but it was light weight, agile, and fun to drive in the twisty mountain roads of Oregon. I wouldn't call it a sexy car, but it doesn't look bad either.

Opel GT (Sky), Vectra (Aura), Antara (Vue)... thats REALLY depressing. the only one i dont see is the Saturn Outlook, but i would guess it was something else. Opel even has an equivalent to "Redline" called "VXR"

i wont even talk about all pontiacs being Holdens....

Yep they sure did. It's SMART. It's fuckin genius. The cars are designed in Europe and then sold here has Saturns so they have a more Eruo-feel to them. Saturn was initially brought out to be GM's Import-fighter. What a perfect way to do so then by selling one of their OWN imported vehicles here that. It feels and looks like an import because it is. To say that barely any RnD went into the car because they didn't change anything is ignorant. No offense. By 2010 ALL Saturns and Opel's will be identical including the names. There's nothing wrong with that what-so-ever. Like I said, it's genius from a business and economical stand-point. There's no reason to change the name? These are all new cars. The ION was a disaster. Why would you want to make a second gen ION? You wouldn't.You'd kill it and replace it with a car that is winning award after award in Europe because it's a completely kick ass car.

GM killed off Oldsmobile for good reason. They didn't have cars that were selling. Plus GM's brands are bloated as they are. When you are trying to dig youself out of a hole you have to look at your weakest links and get rid of them. GM did just that with Oldsmobile. The problem with Olds was they were only selling badge engineered vehicles and nothing exclusive to the brand, with the exception of the Aurora which sold in very small numbers. The brand no longer had a face. Even your Cutty's (I loved the 84's my self OG gangster shit) were nothing but Regals.

Now this is different from Saturn because most of Saturn's line is made FIRST for the Saturn/Opel brand. That makes it unique, unlike what happened to Olds.

Basically when you think of it like this. Saturn is to Opel as Nissan is to Infinity (doesn't matter that Infinity is a luxo brand). Same company, same cars, different names on different shores.

You realize that GM owns Saturn and Opel, as in they are the same company. They already did RnD for the cars under the Opel marque, why would they need to do it again to "make" it a saturn?

Why make a new car when you already have a new one that fits the niche?

Buick has one of the best returning customer base in the industry. Buick is, if I'm not mistaken, the best selling car brand in China. Yea, I know. Weird. Also, expect a Saturn-esque turn around for Buick int he near future. It started with the Enclave. We're supposedly going to get the Chinese version of the LaCrosse which is a hell of a lot better looking then the one we have.

Yea, it's def. a bloated pig. But it's styling and interior are a knock-out and we all know that that's the first and most important thing for consumers out there.

The Enclave actually had a waiting list before it came out. Something GM hasn't had with their consumer cars for a long time. They've barely been able to keep up with demand. Nice.

^Because Saturn is already established in the states. Bringing in a new vehicle AND new Badge is risky. GM can use the name that is already establish in the American mindset and run with it.

It's just smart marketing.

Sure, you know who Opel is and what their Heritage is. But you are an enthusiast. You are not the market "norm".

To capitalize on what exitspeed said about 240sx drivers knocking these other cars... I'm getting tired of hearing guys knock the Domestic Manufacturers (esp. Camaro and Corvette) interiors. Hell, I'm willing to bet at HALF of the guys complaining, stripped their cars interior to be "lighter for drifting". :duh: :rofl:

yea i will have to vouch for saturn because work with them every day. everything in their lineup right now is 100x better than what i used to be. looks, and performance wise. yes the aura is a rebadge vectra, but it still won north american car of the year. and i can definately see why. i almost leased one. the astra's hit our dealership earlier this week styleing is way better than the ion, still a bit cramped in side but overall its way better than the ion. the outlooks are actually really nice cars in base form or even fully loaded. vues are so-so always kinda have been on the borderline with them. and the sky's look good but the cost to performance ratio on them is terrible. the red lines (1.8T eco-tech, 260hp @ 18psi) run the qtr in about 14s and 0-60 i think is in the 5.8 area. but the average msrp on that car is ~31-32,000. now, spend a little bit more or less and you can have a new or mildly used car that is in the same class that has more room, more power and IMO alot nicer.

but over all from their old line up saturn has made a HUGE improvement over the past 5 years.
