So i was talking to a friend of mine about turbos online and he brought up the subject of Holset turbos. :tweak: to tell you the truth i have never heard of these turbos. He recommended that i pick up the hx35 model turbo. he claims that on about 10-12 lbs you can make 300whp on a sr. I just wanted to know if any one has heard or had any experiences with these turbos. He also claimed that they are better built than garret turbos.

If any one can shed some light on this that would be great.

ps: i searched on here got nothin.

What do you use the car for? Lag will be somewhat similar to a GT35. Its a big turbo capable of 500+whp. If you can not live with lag, this is not the turbo for you. You can pick up a used one for around $300. Rebuilds on them are around $300-$350 unless your housings or wheels are damaged.

So you know, these came off the mid to late 90s and early 2000 Dodge Ram w/ the Cummins TD.

Here is a local friend's KA setup with a Holset H1C w/12cm Exhaust Housing @ 15psi:

Cool thing is Holset has been running twin scroll for years. Its funny how Garrett is marketing the "Twin Scroll" on all of their GT Series like its something new.

these turbos are the shit.

100-200 for them on ebay. with 75 dollar rebuild diy kits.

amazing.

mind you these turbos arent really efficent until 22psi and up seeing as they are boosting upwards of 30psi on diesel engines.:aw:

im going to drop a hy35 on my 20 here soon.:bigok:

sounds sweet, thanks for all input. just one more noob question. Is there any kind of special manifold or elbow i would need to purchase? or can i just buy any t3/t4 mani?

edit: i have an s13 redtop sr

t3 flanged. just gotta get a external wastegate or splice the factory hardline to manage the boost. otherwise your gonna be boosting 44psi like BIYAH and blowing more the excess boost outta your blow off :keke:

posdrift240

Is there any other mods needed other than changing the wastegate?

Judging from your question, do you even know how a turbo system works?

i have a few of em - hx35 with a BEP 9cm housing on my car - and a pair of them (an h1c and another hx35) in my moms kitchen, on the bench waiting for other cars to put em on...

i get full boost (19psi) on a sr at 4000-4200 -

the housing i have is much smaller than the standard housings - and it responds much faster. The TS is nice if u have a TS manifold for it tho - im sure.

garrett was also late to the game with the ported shroud compressor ;)

Sorry to bring this back up but it seems to be a "new trend" and I got interested....

When does boost start smelly?

which bep housing are you using? they dont seem to have a housing listed for h1c's and also they are flanged for mitsu's  Any help would be greatly appreciated as i am most certainly set on going with either the h1c or hx-35, depending on what available to me in my price range.

Thanks,

9cm - its for t3 flange and h1c/hx35 and they make one that fits a hx40 also.

theturbotrader.com has them.

Uhh... except everyone has had Divided housings for years.

Full Race started referring to it in the fancy engineer "twinscroll" name and every retard with a 240SX thought it was the newest shit straight out of outer space.

^haha! Word! Im sick of hearing about how great twinscrolls are myself. Not enough proof to make me spend $2000 more to run the same turbo i already have.

Except they totally are better.

The Proof isn't on paper.

Talk to the drivers.

Tuners/Builder/Internet will feed you all sorts of shit about it.

Twinscroll/Divided housing rocks.

boost came in about 200rpms sooner o my buddies car. and gained about 35tq through out the powerband.

but is it worth it? i dont think for the price it is.

but wouldnt twinscoll only benefit if the exhaust manifold is an equal length type?

these things are pretty much ideal for the larger displacement six's right? (RB25) They seem a little large for an SR20 to spool one very quickly. In that video it seems to have no problem with lag at all. They seem great for the money...but i don't wanna wait till 4200rpm for full boost!!
