Sr20det problem, Please Help!

Hey I've had my 240 with the sr swap for over a year now, never had a problem with it. Just today though as I pulled into my driveway I heard a clinking sound coming from inside the motor, like underneath the head the or something. I doesn't really sound like knocking but kina like a chain chinking, it does it when im idling and kina stops when Im driving. Anyone have any insight or heard this before.....thanks

Low oil pressure.

Stretched chain.

Worn chain guides.

Bad shims/worn/rockers.

Same problem happened to me. Turns out i wasnt getting enough oil pressure, resulting in no oil up to the cams. Check your oil pan for dents. Also check your oil pickup to see if the lips are bent. That was my problem. Dents in oil pan and my oil pickup fins were bent. That did the trick for me!

As long as the oil pickup isn't damaged you might get away with getting just a new pan. I bought a new one for my SR and I don't recall the OEM one being that expensive. It was too hard to replace iirc.

take it off, hit it with a hammer handle on a rag, dont chip the paint if you can.

+1 Exactly. I banged the dents out of my oil pan out with a hammer. You should be fine. Like jongriff said, make sure not to chip the paint. You don't want any particles going up in there. And also This is a must, make sure you seal the oil pan up REALLY REALLY REALLY good with gasket maker. If not you'll end up with an oil leak!:spank:

Scrape it with a razor, and the block, make sure the surfaces are clean.

Use permatex Grey RTV. When you tighten the pan down, cross tighten it like a wheel, not in a circle.

i have do this with a hard rubber hammer its perfect if you don't want to chip the paint
