Hey everyone, I've got a pair of Tein HR coilovers for S14 and one of them is slightly bent. The coilover is not leaking and it seems as though the rest of the coilover is fine. So I'm wondering if maybe there's a way to fix it. Maybe bend it back straight. Lemme know what you guys think.

This picture is for comparison. The one on the right is the bent one. The one on the left is the straight one.

How did you manged that??

Um... I wouldn't know personally. Someone with mental fabing know how should chime in at one point and help out.

You'll probably have to buy a new lower casing if it's still available. Contact tein directly.

I got :Owned: two years ago by a curb. And recently found these in my garage again and figured if they are fixable, might as well use em till they're absolutely dead.

And yea, I've thought about how it could be fixed. I'm pretty sure putting heat to it would be a bad idea?

looks like it can be cut and re welded.

As in cut the very bottom, the part that's bent and then weld it back on straight? Will the heat from welding it back on affect the gas or whatever's inside the shock? (excuse me for my noobness)

Your best bet is contacting Tein directly, check their website or call them.

thats the tricky part. im assuming someone who has welded under these conditions before can answer that.

you might want to find out what the design is for that coilover, if there is a shock inside a housing or the shock itself is the housing if that makes sense. depending on that should let you know if rewelding it is possible by taking out the shock and welding just the housing vs trying to weld it as is and melting seals

Good time for a rebuild and a upgrade to Z32 uprights if you ask me.

If the lower bodies are not removable I would just suggest contacting Tein about repair procedures. There are tags on probably every after market shock stating that you should not under any circumstances apply HEAT to the shock, it will damage the contents.

Throw those bishees in a vice pull and call it a day.

Well actually, I really only wanna use it temporarily. I wanna get some Tein SDF's. Right now I have front s13 HR's or HA's and these rear S14 HR's so if it's gonna be too much trouble to fix then I won't bother. I really only wanna use em until I get new coils. So basically if it's an easy fix then I'll go for it.

haha, now that's what I was looking for :bigok:
When you say put em in a vice pull, do you just mean put it in a vice and hammer till it's straight?

Jon

edit: I'm on the Tein website right now and according to their rebuild prices, to have lower seat replace on HR's it's $16 per coilover. So I'm guessing that they can be removed.

So you have an S13 or an S14? Cause you know S14 rears won't fit on a S13 right?

Anyway, depending on what's inside those dampers you can sometimes have Tein rebuild them to a different coilover's specs. Like Flex-->Super Drift, etc. You'd have to contact them to find out.

If there is a removable insert then remove it before you apply heat. I would suggest putting the end in a vice, heating it up and bending it back. If all you want to do is run them into the ground. No hammer, heat and bend.

u could use small tack welds.. and follow it with a wet rag to keep the heat from spreading.

I was just about to post nearly the same thing, but then I realized that those lower casings are not removable. These are like base model coilovers that do not have separate preload and ride height adjustability.

Yea I know. I've got S14. That sounds like a good idea. I wonder if it is possible to rebuild to spec of SDF's how much it would be. I'll try and talk to someone at Tein.

Jon

edit: Thanks alot everyone. I really wasn't expecting such quick responses. And you guys have given me plenty of ideas to look into to get this thing fixed. I really appreciate it.

like others said... just get a new lower casing.

easiest way.
