Posted this on FA but all I got was a comment about using old pads and new rotors. Maybe you guys can help.

I just finished my 5 lug / 300z wheels / 300z brake swap on my 95 base. Let me tell you doing that was about 10 times as hard as puttin my motor in. I will never change hubs again
Either way heres my problem.
The rotors were a B*tch to fit in the calipers. So much that the wheel won't even turn. I figured the pads just need to wear a little (one old set of pads from junkyard caliper and one that came with the reman caliper)
So after driving around with the most god awfull sound I took a look at my new brembo rotors to see that the pads had worn a series of grooves into the rotors.
My first thought was that I had 26mm calipers with 30mm rotors but I know (from asads webpage) that I have the 30mm aluminum calipers.
The wear on the rotors only seem to be halfway down the pad. Could I have missed something when I installed them? Maybe misinstalled the pads? Unfortunatly I really have no clue as to what could be wrong. I hope I gave enough info.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Jed

Wow, that sucks
Junkyard pads tho...maybe they have some buildup or something going on. You could try sanding them a bit...dono what grit would work, I'd think something really fine.

Did you have the calipers rebuilt? I assume the pistons go back in all the way and can move freely and all that good stuff? Is the problem on both sides?

Yep calipers are fine. Since it does it exactly the same on both sides I don't think it's the set of old pads. I'm actually starting to think that I don't have the 30mm calipers. That I have the 26. However both calipers have heatsink fins on the back sides. I thought that that was a trait only the 30mm calipers had.

Yeah Jed, Like I said in my post on FA they shouldn't be that tight of a fit. Either you have the wrong pads, wrong calipers, wrong rotors, or some thing is seized or broken.

The 26mm calipers were only used the first year IIRC on non turbo z's after that they all had 30mm calipers. If you bought them from a yard it is always possible that they were mislabled. I have had that problem with other parts Like the s14 5 lug spindles arived at my door with only 4 lugs.

Ahhh the stories I could tell you.

I'm pretty sure I need the 26mm rotors.

I just finshed my five lug swap. I managedto rip out every single ball joint boot on both the front any rear of my car. Even with the ball joint seperator.

Either way thanks for the info. I'm gonna see if I have enough money to buy the 26mm rotors after work today. Then all I have to do is adjust my toe and I can finaly drive my car again!
