Rear brake piston

So I just converted the front to 300zx brakes and 5 lug hubs no problem. Im having trouble in the rear though. I have the 5 lug hubs bolted up and everything is fine. I bought 5 lug rotors and new brake pads. My problem is that i cannot get the brake piston to reseed far enough to get room for new pad and the rotor. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks a lot guys.

Are you pushing the piston or turning it in? You need to buy the tool to turn the piston back or you can use pliers but its harder. You can't push it back in.

I just used a set of wooden vice/clamps I had, you can use anything suitable and just maybe put a small shop towel over the piston and seal to make sure you dont mangle it...

If the line is already attached you may want to go ahead and unscrew the caliper from the line that way when you go to push the piston back it can just diplace that fluid and shoot it out the caliper instead of hitting the fluid in the line and having the piston not want to move

You need one of the following, the first two pictures are the same tool, most likely going to be expensive. The 3rd pic is a little cube, that does the same thing as the first tool, however this will connect to your standard 3/8 ratchet.

the stock 240sx rear caliper pistons act like a screw, they need to be rotated (most likely to the left) to allow the piston to sit back into the caliper.

yeah you need to turn it clockwise, it should have 4 indetaions i just used needle nose pliers and screwed them back in worked fine

so wait...did you convert your rear brakes to the 2-pot 300zx calipers too? or are you using the stock rear calipers.

since everyone has provided plenty of information about the stock rear brakes and the proper procedure to seat them all the way, i'm just going to mention that the 2-pot 300zx rear brakes are not like the stock rear calipers, but more like typical brake calipers..but if conventional compressing tools (c-clamps, vice grips) are not working, they might be seized....

Yeah it sounds like he has stock rear brakes.

But just in case:

Stock S13 rear calipers = rotate pistons to get them to retract
Z32 rear calipers = push on pistons to get them to retract
