Since my team is not going to be in the playoffs this decade, the NFC matters not to me.
I will decide the NFC based upon the paint of their helmets:
The Giants beat Tampa bay last night, both teams had candy-painted helmets, but the Giants' was just a little bit better, even if it didn't quite match their uniforms. They will carry that candy-painted momentum right to and through the Dallas Cowboys and their non-shiny helmets, but will soundly have their asses handed to them by the Green Bay Packers, who will not have any issue with the Seattle Seahawks.
Now, the AFC will not be so complicated, in fact will not be complicated at all, rather just a race to not be killed to death by the Patriots. Besides, no one in the AFC has candy paint on their helmets.
In the Superbowl, however, candy paint will be no match for the most prolific scoring combinations in league history.
Fuck, I will apply all the non-scientific reasoning I want to to deciding these things.
Anyone else got predictions?

Haha nice prediction... but I sincerely hope your prediction with Giants/Cowboys is wrong. I hope the Giants go down as hard as Guiliani's presidential candidacy.
Let's go Cowboys!

If you want that prediction about the Cowboys to be wrong, you better heave them run their helmets down to Houston, where the cars more than tell us that the KNOW about candy paint

Iono, I hate to say it but the Pats will probably win it all. Thats if they dont get complacent, then again Brady doesnt get lax. Jags wont be able to beat them, Indy vs SD will be a toss up. Will all depend on whether or not SD can slow down manning. Cowboys will stomp the Giants, think Elli will have one of those 3 interception days. Seatttle sucks, Greenbay should beat them. I guess we will see next week end...

Colts over SD
I just don't trust Philip Rivers. I mean if you had to win a big game who do you want at QB, Manning or Rivers? Plus, I had him on my fantasy team this year and he was terrible. If SD does manage to win it won't be because of him.
Seahawks over GB
This is mostly because I don't like Favre, but GB is definitely suspect. Seattle has a good enough defense to mess him up and there offense is underrated.
Patriots over Jags
Cmon, seriously...The only way Jags win is if Brady plays bad the whole game...which probably won't happen.
Giants over Dallas
This is my upset pick. Eli and Romo are both kinda shaky and susceptible to having a bad game. I think defense will decide this game and if NY gets there guys back, I give them the edge.

SD: Yah true, Rivers is flaky but all that means is that LT will get more touches and Indys run defense is like Jerkyl n Hyde. One day they will stop anything and everything, the next thing you know, somebodys having a fucking romp on them.
Seahawks: I dont know, I just think Favre will pull a miracle. Plus the i just dont see the seahawks getting it done. Then again youre right they are underated.

woot woot..go 49ers.
anyways, back to SD, you also have to think of coaches. I still think Norv turner is horrible..as a coach that is. He's a good off coord, but he's failed everywhere as a head coach. SD should have been way better this year, and Dungy is a proven coach.
What's funny about the Jessica Simpson thing is that everyone made a big deal about that game they lost that she was at, but what they didn't realize was that she had been at the last like 4 or 5 games but they didn't show her on tv and Dallas won the other times.

Man, I been a 49ers fan since I was like 7, way back in the 80s, now, and the current team and the promise we had until Frank Gore's mama passed made me happy... The disappointment that followed reminded me of the team that Terrell Owens succeeded in fucking up on his way out.

Not going to happen, not in the AFC... Hold your breath, go to work as a smurf next week.

C'mon, Mel... It is bad enough that I have to listen to that fucker behind me at work woofing this bullshit, but the fact remains that the Packers CAN come off in the NFC, being that the Giants will likely upset the Cowboys, especially with a banged-up T.O. (hey, mentioned twice in one post!), but the AFC has become what the NFC was up until the point the Patriots STARTED winning Superbowls.

The Patriots are playing a game that should strike fear into the very hearts of ANYONE they should so happen to encounter.
They go the whole season running up the score as if they were a BCS school with a Heisman quarterback, only to turn and kill the Jaguars to death with a running game that no one was expecting... Only now, at the end of the 3rd, do they even fashion their customary 10-point cushion.
the patriots have to have a stumble sometime, just a matter of who they are playing at the time and if they can take advantage of it... I'm excited for an Indy v Patriots rematch... I hope Tomlinson has an off day tomorrow... I think Brett Favre has had an amazing season (career really). he's probably gets my warrior trophy for the NFL this season.

Hmm, Jags played weird today. They played completely different on how they usually play. They didnt stop the run and they didnt run. Weird...
Brady was near perfect, how the hell he only had 2 incomplete passes is beyond me.
As far as the GB game, Seahawks got their asses handed to them. Alexander need to retire, 20 yards aint gonna cut it. GBs running back burnt them baaaaaaaaaad.

Sorry Edgar, dont think the colts have enough D to stop the pats...
If the colts beat the pats, it wont be because the colts beat them, itll be because the pats beat themselves. When I say that, I mean that as far as the pats will make execution mistakes. The biggest reason they are 17-0 is because they dont make mistakes that cost them games. Its rare to see them get a big penalty, rare to see them miss tackles, rare to see the o-line not buy brady time in the pocket, rare to see them not run routes...
Phlip
01-13-2008, 08:24 AM
Man, speaking of buying Brady time in the pocket...
Sacked on the first play from scrimmage and the ONLY time he was touched thereafter was a roughing the passer call. Shit, in those conditions, my 4 year old nephew could have put up Brady's numbers last night. If anyone is still doubting that the Pats are the truth this year, they should REALLY have their heads checked.
The Colts can defend the run decently well, but that says NOTHING to the fact that Brady generally has 3 credible threats to go to the end zone on the field with him at any given time, barring a firebombing of their team bus. The colts can beat the chargers, because the chargers are not really that great, but as has been said, the only people that can beat the patriots are the patriots themselves.
...and moss wasn't even in the equation last night. So many weapons.
Hope to see some good fb today.

I'm sorry to say but this is the attitude that looses football games. Trust me, I know. They are a good team but no doubt in my mind that the Colts will give them a run for their money just like they did last year and maybe even beat them. I am not saying that the Pats are a bad teams because as you know look at them right now. Will they do what Miami did in 1972? Maybe? Maybe Not? We will see when we get there. They have an excellent team and very strong but saying "if they loose because they beat themselves" is pretty much stupid because if they loose its because they got beat by another great team in the league. Bob Sanders is going to hurt a mothafucka plain and simple. It isn't over until the fat lady sings.

FUCK ALL YOU CHARGER HATERS.
Horrible calls (or should i say paid off refs) that could've cost us the game, Gates with a bad toe, LT and Rivers injured and sidelined for most of the second half, AND WE STILL WON. All with our 2nd string quarterback and 3rd string running back mind you. Everyone thought we'd lose, but despite a seemingly "fixed" game we still pulled it off.
So yeah, one big FUCK YOU to anybody that talked shit about us!

I just had an epiphany:
The chargers winning was a bit of a ruse to up the interest in the team that SHOULD NOT have been able to beat the Colts, after Peyton actually learned not to choke in the primetime, creating a bit of romance around the patriots' 19-0 season.
The love story will be continued when Green Bay rides their candy painted helmets to the superbowl, where they will play the patriots closer than ANYONE all year in the best bowl we will have ever seen, but they will lose as well.
Can't y'all see it? This shit is a setup.
We'll get to cry with Brett Favre and feel good with the resurgence of Randall Moss so late in his career...
We get the media continuing that reacharound they've been giving Tom Brady the last few years...

the problem with that theory is that the Chargers were not supposed to win the game today. I dunno if you watched it, but somebody was paying those refs something extra on the side. The calls were really THAT bad. Somebody in Vegas is probably dead right now cuz of this game. People dont realize that the Chargers are actually a good team. Chargers should not have beaten the Colts? Why? Peyton Manning? Fuck THAT. We stopped him before and we did it again today WITH the refs against us. Period. Chargers are the truth and people need to stop hating and just give them some damn recognition.
And besides, think about how much more money a Pats/Colts game would've generated than a Bolts/Pats game. Rematch of the "best 2 quarterbacks again" and all that bull shit. We're such a huge underdog for next weeks game againts the Pats its not even funny. I dont see that being a setup at all.

Fact remains here that this is ALL about the Patriots being undefeated Brett Favre being good again... Everyone else is but a mere conduit to those love stories. The "money in the games" has already been spent/made, as far as advertising goes, now it is al about giving people shit that they will talk about for years to come, it doesn't matter who the Patriots get to steamroll next week.

You'd rather see the Chargers vs. The Packers because your Packers would stand an infinitely better chance of winning that game.
To think that The Packers have this magic carrying them on into the sunset, thusly making Brett Favre turn into John Elway, where he can just win it all and call it a career, is just silly when taken in the face of what they're up against.
Besides, Green Bay vs. New England would just be the perfect fucking storm.
As a fan of a team who brought us the west coast offense, then graduated 2 consecutive quarterbacks into the hall of fame, I honestly hate the packers AND the patriots, but there is just no fuckin' denying when you're getting good football from the deal.

Well, I'm 2-2 so far but I did pick the Giants to win. Nobody besides fans picked SD over Colts, and I was going out on a limb picking Seattle. Anyways, here's my picks for this weekend.
NE over SD
SD only had beat 2 teams all year with winning records. Yes they beat both of them twice, but Indy wasn't full strength both times and Tennessee is very over rated. They lost to the Pats at full strength and now might be without Gates and LDT. I just don't think they can pull it off.
NYG over GB
This is mostly because I don't like GB, but the Giants actually do have a good chance. They have a great front 4 and if they can get pressure Favre is likely to start forcing things or just lobbing balls deep. He did this a couple times against Seattle, but they weren't able to take advantage.

The Chargers now are not the same Chargers who played NE in week 2. Simple as that. Belichek or however you spell his name said it himself. He said they have to prepare for a whole new team and that injuries dont mean anything. He said that we've got a team of guys that can make plays at any moment so they cant bank on LT not playing or whatever. That should tell you something right there. The coach of the "omg we make everyone splooge at the sound of our name" Patriots :jerkit: said it wouldnt be a cake walk. Nuff' said. Everybody else STFU.

As good as the Patriots are, it all changes when you're playing for the rights to the Superbowl. Bill Beli"cheat" even said the Chargers would not be a cakewalk, as revat619 mentioned above me. I think it will come down to the team wanting it more, and who's hungrier. The Patriots already won the Superbowl in '02, '04 and '05. The Chargers are going to want it more and will want to avenge their loss to the Patriots last year in the AFC Divisional Playoffs.

As long as we have Rivers we have a shot(I know that sounds hilarious). Lt hasn't played well in the post season and always seems to get shutdown when we need him most, I think Turner's physical running style will work better against the patriots anyways so I'm not to concerned about him.
It would be nice to have a healthy Gates but most reports out right now say he will still have very limited mobility... BALLS. It's a big deal but Vincent Jackson is stepping up as our BIG MAN for the time being and doing a hell of a job taking some coverage off Chambers.
Also, the defense although they played pretty good this weekend needs to step it up even more, PASS RUSH is key and Merriman, Phillips, Castillo, and Olshansky are going to need to play out of there minds, maybe even a corner blitz or two by Weddle since they have been very effective the few times they have done it.
Secondary needs to lay down the law like they have been all year this is definitely no time to choke and capitalize on any and I mean ANY mistake by Brady. I also honestly think if there is a corner in the NFL who can make Moss a complete non-factor it's Cromartie despite his size. the one thing I don't want to see is a repeat of the Colts game and just let them Nickel and Dime us down the field the whole time. Show some balls and just ATTACK. This is the best damn team we will probably ever play, there is no sense in playing it safe since they wont make the mistakes Indy made without us MAKING them make them.
The biggest key of this game will be how well the defense plays and how few mistakes the offense makes.
I really do think we have a legitimate shot at de-throning them, not just saying that as a fan. Just because none of the sports writers have the balls to pick them cause they will be wrong is they lose doesn't mean they aren't legit.
Rob's S14

The only thing is that since SD plays a 3-4 primarily that means they are gonna have LB matched up on Welker, and there's no way they can cover him.
And look at the Jax game. They shut down Moss, but Welker came up and Maroney had 122 yards rushing. Even if they do manage to shut Moss down, that's not really enough.
This means they're gonna have to play man and stack the box, or play zone and be vulnerable to the run. I think NE just has too many weapons and they play smart. Hate him or not, this year Belicheck has been the best at making half time adjustments if needed.

^^^ That was observation, not speculation. The fact of the matter is that he just said the very things that the Chargers themselves need to be worried about as they enter this game. Yes, I understand that you want your team to win, but I am needing you to see that, based upon past recent performances (no, not even the 38-14 week 2 game), with the underlying understanding that the passing game can come off at any moment for a LOOOOOONG touchdown and the recent resurgence of the usefulness of Laurence Maroney and the running game, odds are that the Chargers are going to have a tough time defending the patriots on all fronts, whether or not they get around to that murderous running up of the score.
Yes, I am a fan of a good game, but with the passing game being what it is and the fact that the running game showing that it ain't dead, the fact remains that this is New England's game to lose, ESPECIALLY with injury concerns coming into it.

+1 for niners. What sucked this year was that we started off with so much hope, and by the end of the year I just wanted a win or two so NE pick wouldn't be so high.
Back on topic for this weekend though, Rivers is still listed as questionable and since he hurt his other knee just last week it's not lookin to good. They do expect to have Lorenzo Neal back though which should help the run game. I can't wait to watch this game.

Back on topic for this weekend though, Rivers is still listed as questionable and since he hurt his other knee just last week it's not lookin to good. They do expect to have Lorenzo Neal back though which should help the run game. I can't wait to watch this game.
If Rivers doesn't play... We don't have a chance in hell at winning. Plain and simple.
That drive was only possible because of a penalty otherwise it was 3 and out both times...
I just hate Billy Volek

PORTAGE, Wis. (AP) — Upset that his 7-year-old son wouldn't wear a Green Bay Packers jersey during the team's playoff victory Saturday, a man restrained the boy for an hour with tape and taped the jersey onto him.
Mathew Kowald was cited for disorderly conduct in connection with the incident with his son at their home in Pardeeville, Lt. Wayne Smith of the Columbia County Sheriff's Department said. Pardeeville is about 30 miles north of Madison.
The 36-year-old Kowald was arrested Monday after his wife told authorities about the incident. Kowald was taken to the county jail and held until Wednesday, when he pleaded no contest, paid a fine of $186 and was released.
Kowald's wife filed a restraining order Wednesday, so Kowald will not be able to have contact with his family, Smith said. Smith said other domestic issues have surfaced, though he wouldn't elaborate.
The boy refused to wear the jersey Saturday, when the Packers beat the Seattle Seahawks in a playoff game, Smith said. Smith said the incident sounded strange when reported at first, but the mother took pictures with her cell phone and that type of evidence is difficult to dispute.

I'm going to go for them since my boy Jeff loves them and I guess they are in the Midwest too.

I really think we could go all the way. We beat the defending champs without Rivers in the 4th and without LT in the 2nd half. Our defense has done real good in holding up imo. Sure we could step it up a little. I want to see the patriots get there first loss from the underdogs who shouldn't have beat the colts. What was it like 15-1 odds. All I can say is
GO SANDIEGO SUPERCHARGERS!!!

EXITSPEED GREAT PICS!
I am a former GB fan and a current giants fan, so needless to say this game is a toughie for me
Both teams have TON of heart and i think they are perfectly matched to have one hell of a superbowl caliber game. Being at work right now sucks i wanna start cooking for my party. I don't really mind who wins this game as long as they play with some heart and play some real smash mouth football.

I can't imagine what it must feel like to have even that much of a part of ones' life to be so controlled by the outcome of a damned sporting event.
I mean, I love sports just as much as the next man, but I am not able to have it have a physical effect on me. I am going to see some good football today, no emotional attachment, nor would there be or has there been when/if it was my favorite team in these games.

GO GIANTS!" I am not a big stats whore or whatever, but i think i am very familiar with a teams strengths and weaknesses. Ya thats where my fandom lies

Both teams would have lost to the Pats, they both played pretty bad. As a Bears fan (beating the Packers twice), I am happy that the Packers lost, although I hate the Mannings, its the lesser of two evils.
The Patriots Chargers game (as well as most AFC games) was boring as hell, and the Super Bowl will be too.

Both the teams in today's games lost. I pick the Patriots (obvious choice) to win it all.
(meaning the Giants will probably win) :keke:
I have to disagree with you Mel. Giants deserved that. They played defense in the 4th
and OT well. They picked off Favre 3 times. Brett Favre does NOT throw 3 INT's in
the NFC Championship game...

Brett Favre is old and most of those picks were old man Favre errors, not great defense.
however Burress did do an amazing job this game.

I'm so glad the Giants won.
I'm a Giants fan and I've been catching shit since they got in the playoffs.
Playing the Bucs
"The Giants are gonna get smashed"
They beat the Bucs
Playing the Cowboys
"Giants are gonna lose bad"
They beat the Cowboys
Playing the Packers
"Giants don't stand a chance"
They beat the Packers
And right after this game I get a call:
"They got lucky but they're gonna get served by the Patriots"
I hope they win the Superbowl so I can talk shit till the new season starts.

Now were 13 point underdogs against the Patriots, always the underdogs the way we love it. Pats were 14 pt underdog against the Rams in 01 so if they could do it we can too.
