well i need to know where to get my car painted first if all. I see it as i have two choices because i dont have 2 grand or more to drop on a new paint job. 1. Maaco or 2. the local technical school.
I personally think the tech school would do a better a job and all i have to pay for is the paint and bando, no labor. the guys that do the job are supervised so they aren't going to screw up my car but who knows.
Should i paint it the same color cuz i want to go black but i think it would be dumb to have a black exterior with the engine bay being red... i dont know and thats why i posted this. just need opinions

Go with what you want black is a great color for the s13 .. . wait do you have a s13 ?? well black is good for s13 and for s14 also. Personally i don't think "all" maacos do bad jobs. There is a maaco that i was considering taking my car to that did great jobs. Yes the red engine bay would look weird with a black car, but who drives with their engine bay exposed!!!! ... unless you are going to buy one of those clear hoods!!!!!!! I get the picture now..... cough* ricer * j/k

no, no clear hoods for me. but i guess i'll have a friend of mine who goes to the tech school pull my dents and door dings and then bondod what needs to be bondoed, fix what little rust i have and the get it painted from maaco. i have seen to maaco jobs that i liked. you just have to ask them to do what you want and it comes out decent, i mean you get what you paid for but for 2000, i could buy an SR instead of a paint job so, i guess ill go that route

So wait, are you going to get a paint job or an SR. I think you meant paint right??

Anyways, Macco's are a "hit and miss" deal. From the past threads on this topic, Macco has not been on too many people good list. This is a tough decision. For $2000 you could get a decent paint job at many places. DECENT being the key word. If you have seen the tech schools work and it looks good, give them a shot. Are the students supervised by trained/experienced people?

I would go with black. Well thats what I want for my paint job anyways. BUT black is a hard color to paint and maybe needs a experienced hand in order for it to come out looking wet.

actualy i have decide to go with the SR as soon as i get the money. i just started working more hours so i should be bringing in around 500-600 a month so the Sr will be practical in like 6 months...ill save up fot it. power over looks...

anyway i found out that the tech school doesnt do whole cars. im going to go to maaco and see how it is. two of my friends had it done and it came out good. actually one came out very good, imho, if he didnt tell me it was maaco i wouldnt have known.

but how much does a good paint job usually costs

Power over looks is fine with me anyday. I wouldnt mind having an extra Boro 240 laying around.

What Macco is the one your talking about?? I would like to know! Never seen a good Macoo paint job in person.

As for the price of a good paint job... it really depends on what you consider good. You can pay a good 2500-3500 for a nice paint job....if its black, it'll have the "wet" look.

Go black...u gotta do more than jus paint.......u gotta jam it...that means pullin doors...fenders...hood....trunk deck...lotta work in flippin colors.Personnaly i wouldnt go with maaco, get what u pay for with them.......and u miss anything...they paint right over it.I work ina shop,we get bout 2500 for a simple job....minor body work and jams.My advise would be,find 1 of the guys from the tech school....do A SECTION AT A TIME AND DO IT RIGHT..do ur body work, primer it and guide coat it(misting a seperate ccolor over the top to show flaws when u block the car back out!

good luck

1 more thing, when ur done with the paint,2000 the complete car,and have it buffed.Lotta guys skip this step, and u jus wasted money and time to do a job.........finish it with buffing it.Seen 2 many cars painted that would have looked pretty good had they been buffed afterwards.....and dont wait long..we buff everything same day or next day....clear gets to hard to sand....and u get alot of scratches...hittting it light while its fressh....you can burn it all in...and get a very good shine!
