so i ran into a problem the thing is that when i drive my car at around 4,000 rpm my car hears as its already redlining so i shift to second and second gear is the same when i get around 4-5,000 it also feels the same and i dont want to push it any further...

any ideas of the cause of this??

my sr is pretty stockish just with bolt ons like downpipe exhaust and intake

are you trying to say it wont rev past 4000 rpm? could be MAF...

yeah it does rev past 4,000 but i really dont want to push it because it seems like it doesnt want to just by the sound of it..

whats the timing cam angle sensor or tps sensor? what does tps stand for?

oh and i forgot to mention that my WIRING FOR THE IGNITOR IS PRETTY BAD

so u guys think it may be a grounding issue?? ( grounding = black cable right?? )

make sure the black module thing on the exhaust side of the head (CAS) has the plug all the way in .. does it idle rough also?

yeah it does idle pretty tough because of the wirin to the ignitor like when i fire it up it goes all the way to 2,000rpm and it will settle down to 1,500 rpm and sometimes when i get a bad connection it goes down to 1,200 ...

i didnt want to turn the idle screw because didnt wanna mess it up and it looked as if it was tight and i had already gotten the fuel injector cleaner done to it ...

any ideas? thanks:bow:

check for vacuum and boost leaks first, please list any and all mods. do you have a blow off valve? sounds like an airflow related problem but might be spark, check your timing, which means warm up the car, disconnect the tps (throttle position sensor) pull the no. 1 coilpack and insert a spark plug wire between the coilpack and the spark plug, hook up your timing light (use a standard inductive light not one with any adjustments) and check your timing, should be around 15 deg. which is the 5th mark from the left. if this doesnt fix it let us know and we will help some more
oh yeah forgot to mention the timing must be checked at 750 rpm +/- 50rpm so if after its warmed up and the tps disconnected it is not at 750rpm rev it a few times to above 2000rpm and let it settle and then if its not at 750 set your idle screw, then time it

i have no idea what you just said ...my car idles at 1,500 and thats not normal so yes i guess tomorrow i should turn the idle screw around

am i suppose to disconnect the tps and the no. coilpack after i warmup my car and turn it off??

yeah 1,500 is definitely not normal. my 180 is at exactly 750rpms at idle. if you dont get what he is saying then i would recommend printing those instructions and taking it to a shop that can help you out.

would u suggest then to just to mess around with the aic valve by turning it counterclockwise???
and should i do this while the car is on?

any other info?? i could go past 4k but it just feels like im really redlining the crap out of it and dont want to...

no i dont think so because it cant happen as such a low rpm like i would take notice when im flooring it and have the idea .. thanks for the input though

After reading a few things that people said for you to do I think you should get someone who knows what they are doing to look at your car before you mess up anything... Just a thought... I mean you asked what a spark plug wire is...

thanks , well i checked my plug on the CAS and its fine although it doesnt do the clicking sound ( when its plugged in ) but the car still runs fine like it doesnt turn off ( i pulled it off while running and it turned off )
so thats all ive tried maybe ill try the idle screw tomorrow but im a bit in afraid and i should take black240 advice...:-/

Sounds like you should have someone else look at it. A mechanically inclined friend with nissan knowledge at least, or ask for some help in the regional forum for recommendations on where to go.

What exactly do you mean when you say it feels like it's redlining? Is it breaking up above ~5000, like it's misfiring? If so, I would check your coilpacks as well. Easy check, pull them out one at a time when the car's running; if you pull one and nothing happens then you've found your problem. I had a bad connection on a coilpack and it made my car sound like a Subaru and run poorly from time to time. Idled rough, as well.

Check your MAF connection as others have said, and get your ignitor wiring fixed. If none of that helps, then it sounds like you might be better off taking it to someone.

thanks i cleaned the maf already but eh.. and it was an actual faulty ignitor so now i dont have that problem.. but i will do what you said by pulling a coilpack thanks a lot

**update** okay so ive checked my CAS , TPS, and finally coilpacks and theyre all fine ( i unplugged the coilpacks one by one like i was told) .

I DID NOTICE THIS... i noticed after i took off the coil 2,3, and 4 the inside was yellowish and the first one its nice and clean....

is the yellow stains a clue of what i should do next??

bump..from 3k and up the car feels sluggish i guess thats my only way to describe it and it also feels that ive lost a lot of power

may this be a bad grounding wire??

where do i check for this??

like i said many times i dont want to do that i want to learn on my own i just want someone to point me in the right direction of where i should look @ i know that the best is to take it to a shop but i dont want to pay the high prices that they charge.

please if you dont have any helpful advice dont reply.. i know takin it to a shop is best if u have any SR knowledge then please help thats why i stated the title as

" sr redtop specialist "

not " come in the thread and tell me to take it to a shop "

timing is most likely culprit, and it was answered in first few posts.
Since you didn't bother reading the FSM, you wouldn't know how to set timing anyway.
since you dont know what TPS or CAS is, and keep thinking its a ground issue. Keep on driving it - blow it up. See if I'll care :P

Telling you to take it to a shop, its for your own good. Any decent shop should have it running great within an hour. A buddy will do it for some beers.
Arguing that you can spend 2K on a SR, but can't spend a $100 on a tuneup, is retarded.

i was using a 50F00 ignitor and it went bad and now im using a 50F01 ignitor from a blacktop and i have a redtop engine

so basiclly my question is

can i safely use a 50F01 BLACKTOP IGNITOR on my redtop instead of using a 50F00 ignitor ?

or should i just try to get a redtop ignitor

or does it even make a difference

please let me know
