I have a S13 blacktop which i ran for a year with the S14 T28.
I had the Taka SS lines. Right now i currently bought a new GT28RS turbo.
Installed it cranked the car for 30seconds to make sure oil would build up in the turbo, and started the car.
Drove it around the block very easy to test it without going over 4K RPM since its a new turbo.
Heard some whining, like high pitch noise.
I tought it might go away so i drove it some more later on, maybe like 40miles.
and all of a sudden the noise went way up.
Came home took the turbo out, and found oil in the Turbo oil inlet line, but on the Turbo drain outlet very little and at the end of the hose for the drain line was dry.
Why would that happen????
What should i do??
Should i hook up an oil gauge to the oil feed line from the block? and what kind of pressure should i see there?
It just seems as if the turbo somehow stopped the oil from flowing through it.
There was no oil in any of the housing from the turbo, so i know it didn't leak anywhere outside the turbo.
Please help if u know of something that i could do, or if should have done.
Thank you very much

Line could have a fucked restrictor thats restricting too much oil?

^--...yeah what type of restrictor are you using? sounds some type of debris got into your center assy, or just through the oil inlet and is blocking oil from lubricating the shaft properly. first spin it by hand while adding a few drops to the oil inlet, observe what happens. or take the turbo apart and find what the culprit is.

after i removed it, i check the lines, i was able to blow through them air by mouth without problem, i also did this check before i installed the lines.
I know it shouldn't be the lines.
I believe the restrictor is the banjo fitting, that bolts to the oil feed of the block.
Can anyone tell me what kind of pressure i should get at the block, at the oil feed to turbo, and what kind of pressure after the line, where it plugs in the turbo?
I wanna test that when i have time.
Could it have been a bad turbo?

Theres your problem...you bought a piece of shiet turbo. Consider yourself short of $350 from buying a real turbo for $1100. My guess is the restriction is in the turbo itself. The drain side of the turbo is a gravity line, so there wont be much pressure on that side, it literally just drips down to the oil pan.

yes, i know its ebay crap, but I thought it should work. From reading many reviews i thought it might be an ok turbo, cuz he only sells turbo's and turbo kits on ebay and many people gave good reviews.
But now i'm gonna buy the real Garrett, so i wanna know how should i make sure it wont happen with the new turbo.

It's a gamble. Some people have ok results, here's another one for the "don't buy ebay turbos" column
Seeing as you already have it, you might as well carefully take it apart to see what the problem is.
IIRC yokotas said a few were running this turbo in japan with no problems, just loc tite the nut to the shaft.

since this problem is liekly with the turbo itself, odds are it wont happen with the garrett,if it does than you got a brand new freak turbo from garrett.

Double check where your oil supply line gets it oil from. Also, many people leave feedback on ebay before they even get or try the product. That is what we call idiots. I had a seller file a complaint cause I didnt give him feedback right away even though I had not even gotten the product.

exactly what i was thinking of, and today i rechecked the reviews and its mostly like +++ very good shipping bla bla bla.
But i found 1 review that had exact same turbo for SR, buyer said he had similar problem the shaft had excessive runout, which is similar to me.
I have runout that the fans started getting damage from grinding the housing.

Yeah you know even those chinese turbo manufacture do not recomend there turbos haha.
I had my girl friend there checking for me and they told her she should not purchase these due to huge variance in quality.
I thought it was quite funny that they said this to her considering they likely dont give a shit either way
