hey guys. we've decided to take a break from shooting the shitty shit, downtown detroit for a while. we started a new, local michigan group on flickr. so we've been going around shooting some 'nicer' things. dont fret though, more of detroits shit to come in the future. i just got a tad burned out on it. anyhow, here goes. any C&C would be appreciated and welcomed.
and because someone always asks. the camera is a canon rebel XTi, sigma 10-20mm lens.

i visited a buddy in cincinnati, where i went to my last 2 years of high school. shot a couple things around town. they're from mount adams, if anyone is familiar.

some old, creepy looking church. just wish that damn van wasnt there.

old house. the hills here were pretty crazy.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2364/2159561671_233806640e_b.jpg

had a bunch of crazy, long ass walkways in between alot of the buildings. wore me out walking/smoking. jeebus.

onto better crap.

i live in kinda of a rural area. its rural as shit for whats around. but anyhow, we got a foot of snow, so i saw a perfect oppertunity to go shoot snow covered crap.

i wish more people would give the midwest a little more credit. it really is beautiful, in its own way.

this is an old light ship. instead of putting up a bunch of light houses, they would park these bitches above the really shallow areas. the sign said that on clear nights, its light could be seen from 14 miles away. i guess they were all painted red over time, but this one remained black. they drydocked it in 1971, and later turned it into a museum.

a BIG ass freighter going by. kinda cool. looked like it was barely moving, until it got up close. that shit was hauling ass.

thats all folks. 1 question. how do you feel about all my lame ass borders?? i like the look. ive been switching them up here and there. and i changed my little sig in the photos to a font that is slightly more professional.

Given the lines that most of your pictures have, I think the border is very tasteful. Your pictures contain a "path" or "flow" with the lines of you subject. It's really nice.

The blue water bridge looks nice i would love to frame it in my living room. The borders make it look nice, elegant, wallpaper friendly.

They yates building looks like something from a horror movie.

Awesome pictures. The first picture is perfect to put like a nicely modded car in the lower mid-rightish area, and photoshop skills could knock that van out.

Again, great work, I like them all.

Wow I love the pics.

Especially the photo with the walkway down to the stream.

It's like here, walk down here and just pull up a chair and relax.

Do you mind if I save some pics to use as wallpaper?

Wow I don't get to see anything like that in Vegas, I set the frozen lake as my wallpaper. The long walk is also very cool, that house looks creapy.

thanks guys. save 'em, use them as wallpapers. i dont mind. haha, im off of work, so i get to go out and do this whenever. i just got my ass out of bed, im deciding to head downtown to shoot the ambassador bridge or something. its easier by myself. i can get in, get the shots, and get out pretty quick. but its fun.

I'm by no means an expert, but your shots are all very pleasing to the eye. as others have said alot of them would look good framed.

thanks guys. i appreciate all the positive comments alot.

well, some good news. i got a pm on a local forum this morning. some dude and his wife want to buy a couple prints! i think he wants the frozen stream ones. so i gotta figure out where to get them printed, and how much to charge him. its all new to me. im just shocked someone wants to pay me for them. lol.

found an empty playground/park today. it was really effing creepy. a place where kids are supposed to play and have fun. but i was alone..
i tried to keep the feeling i had when taking the pics. one of those cold feelings. void of happiness.

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2121/2170026457_4b3b132441_b.jpg

i added a slight blue-ish tone to all of them to add a cold feeling.

lastly, a small lighthouse in a small park in detroit. its the type of place you go and only see people sitting in their cars. drinking and smoking weed and shit. windsor ontario is across the river.
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2072/2170854418_4e57f1696f_b.jpg

ive got a small outing tomorrow at a state metro park, then prob a few days off. lol.

they are all HDR'd images. all using atleast 4 exposures to capture detail where you would generally have really white, or really dark areas.
gives the shots more tonal range.

the weird effects of the HDR thing is kind of distracting. (like in the slide picture, the sky inside the railing is considerably darker). Composition is good as always, and is more important.

You're making me want to get a fast prime instead of this f4 70-300 tamron with my bestbuy gift cards
