View Full Version : Safc + Stock Ka SETTINGS PLEASE!!!

I purchased an s14 with a stock ka(bone stock with intake and 3" exhaust). It came with a safc hooked up but the car has a very odd powerband for a ka. It just doesn't feel right.
Can anyone PLEASE give me a quick lesson on setting the vafc and what the setting should be for a stock ka?! I'm taking this car on a long trip tomorrow and would really like the proper/safe settings.
basically, i just want the computer to act as STOCK. I'm not looking for GAINS, i just 1. dont want to remove it at the moment(using it later), 2. don't want my car to blow up at the drift event
Thanks in advance for any advice/info.
ps- please dont tell me to take it off the car or flame the fact its on the car. Although its not ideal, it will be used to tune(if you want to call it that) my 7lbs boost set-up in the near future.
thanks

Does it have a hot-wire type setting to choose?
Seems to me, if it's in fact a V-AFC...then it won't work right on a MAF based motor.
Although, I admit...I've never tried.
You're best bet is to bypass it.
Find the MAF wire on the ECU that has been cut...take the AFC out of the loop, and reconnect the wire as stock.

my bad, my title was correct but the description was wrong.
It is the apexi SAFC.

2 in 2 out.
0% across the board.
Or just disconnect and trash can it.

Just put all the settings to 0%, on high and low throttle. That will be the easiest way to make it stok for now.

a vafc has the same type of settings as a safc
with added vtc control
and double the amount of tuning points
Just leave the vtc wires out and it will work just as a safc if you set it up correctly
(i used a vafc on my s14 )
I agree with orion:s14 , bypass it

AFM type setup.
Should be ok if its already running.

you go to HOT WIRE there you can set it up as 2 in 2 out.

Ok, just went to check the HOT WIRE settings as suggested.
It WAS set at 5in 5out. I changed it to 2 in 2 out. Just trying to learn a little, so what exactly changed when it went from 5 to 2?

The hotwire sensor raises voltage as air flow increases, so the person who previously owned the car probably had a N60 maf to compensate voltage for higher air flow. You just set the voltage back to normal for the stock set-up.

Those numbers represent the air flow meter calibration, since the afc sits inbetween the afm it replicates the signal to the ecu.
When selecting those numbers you are telling it that a type "2" air flow meter is coming in, and type 2 going out.
in a vafc you get to choose the in and out. but you dont get to pick what kinda of sensor it is. im guessing its set at pressure sensor.
but ive seen ppl use it on there 240sx.
is it the same ne ways?

I was curious, is there only one sensor setting that will allow the car to run good? I have heard so many differnet 2in 2out, 2 in 5out, 5in 5out, 5in 6out, 6in 5out, 6 in 6out, and I re initialized my safc and I HAD to set mine to 1 in and 6or7 out to get it to start and stay running. It drives ok but doesnt really feel like its running as good as stock. Everything else is 0'd out and I have a Z32 maf... I am gonna trash it, just waiting on meeting up with a buddy to pick up his stock sr maf. I was just curious about the safc and the sensor settings till then just want to make sure I am not screwing my car up untill then...

found this, didn't want to make another thread. my car came with a de swap it's an s13 hatch, and the guy that i bought it from put a safc-2 in because it "wasn't running right" when he got it. how the hell could somebody think this pos will solve a problem?

I guess, it would be the same way you think, since you are looking for settings.

i didn't ask for settings i'm not looking for them and i already ripped it out. just wondering what type of problem could possibly be fixed by this pos. it's not running as well without the safc but sounds healthier if that makes any sense. i started diagnostics already but i was just kinda trying to get pointed in the right direction, i already have to go over almost everything.
