View Full Version : KYB GR2 or Tokico blues?
what do you guys think? Anyone had previous experience with both? I really need to get my new shocks so that I can install my springs too. I wanna do it all in one shot. So what do you guys suggest?

kyb agx for s14 are out now. $399 for the set. get them better for aftermarket springs. strano (http://www.stranoparts.com) has them.
yeah, i know they're out. i posted on the group buy sec. to see how many of us want em. cuz i know this one guy that has them. maybe we can convince him to do a group buy.

AGX are one of the top choices, if you want to lay down the money. Where are you finding Tokico Blues and GR2s at the same price? The Tokicos are usually a bit more expensive. . . IIRC, Tokicos are a bit stiffer, and are generally regarded as a bit better shock than GR2s. What springs are you getting? That will have an impact on which shocks will be best. The lower/stiffer the spring, the stiffer the shock you want. Underdampened cars aren't so fun to drive, and they look silly going over bumps
Anyhow, I have Tokico Blue shocks on Tokico springs and love the setup.
Im prob. gona go with the AGXs. they're on group buy right now for a total of 390 shipped to my house If you ask me, thats pretty fuckin good. Anyway, im still deciding, because when i get the adjustables, im proly gona always keep it on stiff anyway. But I really dont know yet. My springs are suspension techniques 1.3 drop. you guys think its worth it to get the adjustables? especially since its running for a good price right now.?
by the way, i found the tokico blues and KYB non adj. at

I really have no idea about suspension setups. For now tho, I wanted to upgrade to shocks/struts from stock. I was thinking about the group buy for the GR-2 but are those bad for street setups?? I'm looking for an upgrade for my daily driven 95. Its daily driven, but at night, i take it to secluded areas to practice drifting and other things, so any suggestions?? I guess the AGX sound worth the money, but I'm not a big fan of adjusting my suspension all the time especially if its not a HUGE improvement. But i dunno. Thanks for any help.

I installed my tokico blues and eibach prokit two weeks ago and so far they've been great. I can tell my car is lower, not super low, but much much stiffer.

Flipboi: GR2s are decent, but not really a huge improvement over factory shocks/struts. If you want an improvement, shoot for the Blues or AGX. You don't constantly need to adjust the AGX shocks, just put them on the setting you want and leavem.
s14: Kind of odd that you didn't notice the suspension to be stiffer. My tokico springs and shocks made the car markedly stiffer than stock. The car doesn't roll much into the turns anymore, pitch and dive are hardly noticeable, and when I sit in it, it doesn't move I've never ridden on Prokits, though, so I can't compare.
Did any of y'all with factory front and rear sway bars notice a difference from upgrading? My car has both from the factory, and I'm reluctant to upgrade if it's not a noticeable difference. . .

Ive had tokico blues and a prokit on my car for a month. So far the ride has been excellent, but I wish it were a little stiffer.

I have a 97 se with eibach pro-kit, KYB GR2s, suspension techniques f/r sway bars, front upper strut bar, rear upper strut bar, rear lower control arm tie bar, polyurethane T/C arm bushings, 25 millimeter hub-centric spacers, 17s with 235/40/17ZRs with a treadwear of 160, and OZ 15s with 225/45/15s kumho ecstas with a treadwear of 50 and I don't think it is underdampened at all. It is a daily driver (my only car) and my auto-X car. It handles like a freaken roller coaster and doesn't beat you up on the bumps, but it IS stiff!
I would definately have gotten the AGXs if they were out when I did the springs, I have heard great things about them. I heard that the Tokicos are great for a whole year if you are lucky and then they don't do sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit!
And yes it is definitely a noticable improvement to upgrade from SE sway bars to aftermarket. I got F/R Suspension techniques sways on special from JCWhiney for $187.43 incl. shipping (bah-gen foh me), but the rear linkage bolt was too damn long and I had to throw some of the old rotten rubber bushings in there to take up the extra space.
Now I just need some LSD.....I mean VLSD

I personally think you should go with the Tokico's. You will notice a big difference not only in performance, also in ride comfort, Which is a key factor. My opinion on the AGX are crap. AGX's aren't very good when they come to aborbing shock very well... my experience shows that. Dont get me wrong KYB's aren't that bad, but better for an All time track car, and not a Daily Driven Sport machine. Also Tokico also offers compatible Tokico brand Springs to come with it.
Go with Tokico, you'll be happier.
Call my buddy he's a dealer for Tokico, Mention that i refered you (Danny) and he'll hook you up with a GREAT price. 714-641-0116!
