View Full Version : Fuel Injector Question

I just put new injectors on I got in the mail. I would think it's the injectors but I know it's not because when I put the stock ones on before it was the doing the same thing for a little while and I drove it around a bit and it stopped. Well anyway the motor vibrates back and forth violently. Any ideas what this could be? Doesn't seem to be any leaks anywhere and if I play with the injectors it settles a little bit but then does it again? Maybe the injector plugs are shot or something? or maybe you need to break in injectors somehow? I put some new gas in and 2 bottles of fuel injector cleaner thinking that might settle it out. It was doing this last time I put injectors on too. Really weird. Any suggestions? Should I try to disconnect the battery to reset the ECU, maybe that'll work? Thanks in advance.

i dont know what engine you have, but if its an sr20det make sure the coil pack connector plugs are pushed in all the way in possibly the clip is busted and came loose. try that first if you have an sr20 of course.

are you using the same inj. seals as with the stock ones?
could be old and hard so as to not seal.

I put brand new nissan injector seals on with vaseline like it said on 240sx tech and I have a distributor (ka24e). Any other suggestions? This is driving me nuts. Maybe the fpr or something?

O and if you move the throttle it'll stop shaking but as soon as it goes back to idle it'll shake violently again. But it was running fine on the other injectors once I put them in after a time? Weird...

It could be a vacuum leak. I think maybe the FPR hose has a kink in it but I can't get it to sit straight or maybe some other vacuum is leaking? Well I'm going to check that. It also said it might be a blown valve cover gasket which could be true since it's leaking now? O well we'll see what happens. Thanks for your help guys.

how did you deduct to your problem being the injectors?
was your car doing this before you drove into a ditch (i also saw yoru steering wobble question).
perhaps your actual engine mounts are fucked which is why it bounces at idle...?

try spraying break cleaner around the intake manifold flange to see if it is a vac leak

I had to put my injectors back on after installing a nismo fpr and when I pulled them out I realized they were broken. So I reinstalled them anyway and put new washers in til the new parts came in. As soon as I reinstalled the stock ones it was doing the same thing for quite a while until I drove it a little bit and it finally stopped. The motor shook at idle and had low power but somehow after driving around for a little bit it stopped doing it all together. I put new injectors on I got off here and it's doing the same thing again. So pretty much everytime I put new injectors on it flips out like this which is why it's so confusing. It was leaking before the accident so that's why I got new injectors by the way and it's not leaking now, it's just vibrating like it's crazy. I'm going to go try spraying the intake manifold thing and see how that works out.

1 are the injectors stock replacement (same flowrate, same ohms)?
2 are you getting spark on every cylinder at idle?
3 Have you checked/reset your timing recently?
4 What codes are stored on the ecu?
5 Have you checked your fuel pressure recently?
It sounds like a cylinder is missing.. Check spark plugs, wires, distributor, cap rotor... If it's a KA. Pull each plug wire/coilpack at idle (individually) and see if the idle gets worse or stays the same... Should tell you where the problem is if it has to do with one cylinder's spark or fuel.
Try unhooking your positive battery lead for a little while to reset the ECU. The ECU should have closed loop fuel trim based on O2 sensor feedback, it's possible that after it runs for a little bit it's correcting itself which is why it runs good after a little while and poorly at first. But the fact it's running poorly means something else is wrong; vac leak, fuel pressure, sensor, timing, etc...

Yea the injectors are stock. Yes I get spark at every cylinder. I probably should check the fuel pressure but it was running fine earlier. I took the positive battery cable off to reset the ecu hopefully that works. I should check the timing that might be one of the issues. I'm going to go check the timing now see if that's screwed up. Be back in a bit

you installed a nismo fpr?
is it adjustable?
does it have a gauge on it?
check the fuel pressure

There was a nismo FPR on before but I took it off because i'm using it on my 91. I'll check the fuel pressure tomorrow off the stock fpr but I can't get the distributor screws off. Any trick to that? I think I'm just going to have to drill them it out because it's so rusted.

No real trick they should just come right out
If you're on stock FPR it's not going to matter much what your fuel pressure is since you won't have any way to adjust it. But it might be show a problem with your fuel pump, filter, lines, etc..
Does the ECU report any trouble codes?
