I have a SSAC FMIC kit with a 31" x 12" x 3" Intercooler. Which was fine when I was going to run the 3071R. Now I am going to use the stock T28 for the foreseeable future.

The 31" x 12" x 3" is freaking huge and barely fits. I was thinking of going to a 27" x 6" x 2.5" Intercooler.

Think this would allow a better response as there is a lot less core to charge. With the heat the T28 puts off I don't think I would overheat this core.

Thoughts?

All those intercooler are too large for our setups.

The dimensions you posted are good.

There is a quality Precision IC for sale in the fs section.

I have one like it; ~ 12*8*3 core.

I'm definitely no authority on it, but it sounds fine to me. A 27"x6" is still a lot better than the stock sidemount, especially if it has decent airflow going through it.

My car came with a massive XSPower core installed on it, with everything else stock. Installing a smaller core crossed my mind, but that would require spending A) time, and B) money. And I'm lazy and poor. :(

Yeah I think that size is actually more efficient than the larger one you had.

Especially running a stock T28 turbo.

It never seem reasonable to run a big ass FM when you don't have the proper size turbo to run it with.

About as low key as you can get :D

No it will not overheat the core. the 27x6x2.5 core should be more than enough for a T28. Everyone gets hung up on huge FMIC intercoolers because they look all badass.
If you ever looked at a Porsche 911 Turbo intercooler you would be very surprised by its size. 3 liter engine and the cooler is around 21x5x3 top mount. My friend put one in his S13 with blacktop and ran short pipes with a 2871r and it rocked.
Porsche has a habit of tuning things to the upper end of tune- ability from the factory. So anyone saying its too small, seriously has to go back to their books and start studying.
