sup everyone. i find this strange....

well i got a 90' 240sx rockin that single cam... just installed the welded differential a few days ago so it was time to practice..

i feel that maintaining a donut is like 5x harder for me than maintaining a drift.. i mean i even got shift lock down yesterday but doing more than 2 donuts is still a PAIN

anyone else got this goin on with them?

typically people want to learn donuts first.. bleh iono

Hmm.... I didn't do donuts prior to drifting. I was able to drift but not really that good.

But however after mastering donuts it was a lot easier for me drifting wise.

Donuts is cool just for the fact that for me it helped me with throttle control and being as ease being sideways.

Just keep on practicing the donuts because its of course the basic foundation of a drift.

Then move onto figure eights to help you with transitions.

Also practice getting closer and closer to the cones if you can set those up to help you with clipping points.

Hope that helps.

Not always.

Sometimes it take people a while to get used to it.

Not everyone is a drift master as yourself there Cesar.

Now could you please sign my titties.

Thanks.

I cant talk shit until i pop my cherry. I hear so many different stories

"blah blah blah dont get a welded"
"just get a welded it works best"

wtf!?!? if I do an event this weekend or next I can only afford a welded so.... yeah....

But anyway, donuts = easy.

i bet money your 'drifts' are power slides
shits not drifting try again

donuts are easiest thing ever
i taught a lot of pepole donuts
once i understood the donuts and figure 8s drifting just accelerated from there

1st gera 2nd gear and 3rd gear donuts are fun.
great way to kill tires and work on throttle control.
its fun times

i dont beliv anything jack says
he almost killed me in his car at HTM
who clutch kicks in 2nd gear at the edge of the track corner?
serious
you got lucky son!

hahahah oohhh jack got tooooldddd, haha

One thing Ive noticed from messin around in the rain is that power sliding is just a clutch kick quiick countersteer and letting the car correct itself. I think if you can do that you can pretty much drift, only difference is not being afraid to give it gas and keep holding the wheel.

dont have any worries. it was the same exact thing for me. once you get the hang of the donuts, though, your throttle control during a drift will be way better.

i agree with Jack, dounuts and figure 8s are foundations for drifting. to some, drifting doesn't come to you over night. keep practicing and GL.

azndoc dousan have it exactly right thats what i learned first. also my first drifts were powerovers wrd. then i moved to clutch kicks till my clutch felt like jello rofl...when your learning its good to keep your car the same/consistent. get use to it first. got that from a friend. ;) and lol @ callin dousan an ass thats just how he communicates

You're the one coming on here bitching about drifting.

I mean you can't be doing anything too crazy with an open diff and an naska.

Ninja you trippin.

All it is, is car control. If you can't control your car going like 5mph sideways, what makes you think you can control it at the top of third?

12-31-2007, 05:16 PM
everything is progessive thats the best way to get better at anything

especially in drifting

start small and go bigger, start slow and go a little faster each time so that you have control each time.

things will become much more natural with consistent practice rather than hitting top of 2nd and pulling the e-brake for an uber power slide

learn your car before you learn to drift anyways

i woke up one day and got into my moms 4dr civic and pulled the e-break at a stop sign and did a couple dounts!! j/k!!

i think you should listen to everyone! if theres more then 1 person said dounts is the foundation of drifting...then i think i might just is!

Start out with small donuts and then slowly go bigger, and when you get them down one way, start going the other way.
At the first practice event I've ever been to, everyone who hasn't drifted there before was required to do a few controlled donuts around a cone to show they have at least some car control down. I've drifted around parking lots before that, but I've never done a single donut, but I thought it turned out to be pretty easy, I spun out once and then I had it down, you just have to get used to how much power your car has.

Heres a video from the beginning of last year when Ueo came to Guam and held a drift school and mini competition. he taught donuts and transitioning to another donut then later in the day held a competition. it pretty much shows the basic setup for learning to drift.

Yeah everyone was scared when we saw those barriers! one of the guys hit but it wasnt too bad. it helps us alot that Japan is close by and the drifters like to chill with us so we are learning alot.

Definitely learn donuts and figure-8's like most have already mentioned. They're the fundamentals of car control. In one of Keiichi Tsuchiya's drift technique videos with a red hachiroku, he takes very small steps in teaching how to drift. I believe the first few steps were 180 turn, 90 turn, donuts, then figure-8's. There's also a video of Ken Nomura teaching a businessman how to drift in his R34. He, as well, starts out with donuts of different radii to teach car control. I learned from watching these vids over and over again. I'm still learning. Take it easy, man.

I'm a little surprised someone hasn't posted these to help out:

I took out my passenger door handle, it's funny to see people used to riding in 240's automatically reach out for it by instinct and get startled when they grab nothing, and then they start panicking looking for something to hold onto, no one wants to ride with me anymore haha.

I see in this thread lots of takes on drifting and whats the best way to learn.

i cant do donuts

never ever.

but i can drift 3rd gear and can control it

but no donuts for me.
