12-30-2007, 08:22 AM
jesus, were you just spinning tires in the rain and bouncing off the limiter or something?

scary to see an engine fail that catastrophically without warning, though i guess it could be like 16 years old and high mileage.

either way it's just a motor, and if you can have it out 2 hours after it dies you shouldn't have trouble getting a replacement in.

super240sx7185
12-30-2007, 08:27 AM
Nah i was in heavy traffic couldnt see hardly and it just died taking off. It had about 230,000 miles on it i swapped it in beginning of 06 only paid 350 for so no big loss lol.

fliprayzin240sx
12-30-2007, 09:41 AM
Well you cant really tell when the oil pump just suddenly gives...remember, the stock oil light is just an on/off switch. It turns on, for the most part, your engine is toast.

thursday i passed thru macon going to summit, we hydro planed twice then finally had to pull over. couldnt see 3 foot infront of the car at all. my s14 was loosing alot of power too for some reason.. good thing it was sold minutes later. weather has been bad since thursday in georgia... still fucking raining right now

12-30-2007, 03:39 PM
Yea its crazy only mods were underdrive pulleys, cai, header, exhaust, walbro fuel pump, all accesories removed, electric fan. I also just replaced the oil pump when i installed the motor, ihave aftermarket gauges and the temp was fine and oil pressure was around 75 as far as i could tell from a/f gauge it was ok(narrowband). The engine used no oil between changes just changed 2300 miles ago with castrol 20w50 high mileage. Anyways my friends dad seems to think the wrist pin broke sending the rod thru the side of the block multiple times since i found parts of the piston on the ground also. Oh and i dint even have enough speed to get out of the road had to push it lol.

Wow thats crazy never seen that before, my single slammer dropped an exhaust valve and punched a hole through the piston, but thats just crazy right there.

12-30-2007, 06:45 PM
nasty pics, good luck with the new motor.

super240sx7185
12-30-2007, 06:51 PM
Ok heres a few pics of tear down, the rod still spun around the crank, and the piston still moved up and down freely, so im at a loss at what caused this. Oh and the last pic is just for sume humor on this lol.

Don't mind the dirt had to drag it through the mud by myself to get it under the garage, still raining sigh.

Heh.... you said the intake was where the battery used to be or did you cut a hole where it was and make it cold air???

I just put mine where the battery used to be but didn't make it cold air yet.....Now I dunno if I wanna do this lol....

super240sx7185
12-30-2007, 07:27 PM
Yes i cut a hole there and the tip of the filter was slightly through it worked great for almost 2 years, but then again the puddles was deep. Shouldv'e took a different route home.Bad thing is i just installed full energey suspension bushings, power steering rack, tie rods, tension rods, ruca, also strut bars and coilovers 8-9 months ago arrggh so fun to drive.

Hey i got a question guys if i can find a low mileage s14 engine whatt all will i have to swap off my ka so i can run my harness and ecu, or if i get complete harness with ecu from s14 can i swap that into my car? It's a 90 hatch with 93 kade ecu cluster harness.

12-31-2007, 01:41 AM

Yea. and you might have to replace the intake manifold, because the emission shit is different in the s14 and s13. Thats what I had to do when I put a s13 KA in my s14.

I bought a s13 coupe and the ka had two holes on each side. I had it happen on a S14 SR that shit hurt.

Loving the first pic, pulling engines in the mud. I've done it in the snow, but never will I in the mud.

i have a 96' ka in my 93' hatch.. or did, pulled it last night to go in the coupe..

i didnt swap anything over, but you def. will not pass emissions.. egr is different, and the heater hoses are weird between the two (connecting them to the hoses on the firewall)
change the temp sensor to the s13 sensor, change the oil pressure sensor to an s13 sensor..

and change the distributor to the s13 disi.

wala you have a running s14 motor in your s13..

are you on 240atlanta ??

super240sx7185
01-02-2008, 10:25 PM
Nah im not on 240atlanta and we have no emissions in macon. All the emissions have been long gone from my car since i had the single cam in it lol.

01-05-2008, 02:51 PM
As much as this sucks, it's way cooler than losing a motor to something gay like a spun bearing or cracked ring land.
If you're going to break stuff, you might as well do the damned thing right.

Also, place what's left of your old short block in front of your parking spot to show the new engine that you're not fucking around.
Fear can be a good motivational tool.

you're an idiot.

super240sx7185
01-05-2008, 05:53 PM
Yea well ka's are built great mine ran strong enough to kill gsr's easily, drove daily and the only reason it broke was because of driver error not the engine's fault. Mine used no oil between changes and never showed any sign of being designed to sling a rod, saying that is just ignorant.
