View Full Version : Running really, really rich. Bad MAF

I bought an aftermarket intake from porcarparts.com (cheap) and it didn't have a place for the air temp sensor. so I just squeezed it through the silicone hose where it connects to the MAF so it kinda just hangs in there. If the wire got shorted or too pinched that it stopped working, would that cause the engine to run richer? I've got the N1 Dual as well and I get a load of soot on the back of my car. Kinda embarassing really. People say it's normal but there's no way. Could this be the problem?

I am trying to trace down the same exact problem. All the readings (voltages) seem to be ok, but the damn thing still soots up my tailpipe and pops under decell (mostly cold). I've done all the diagnosing I can think of, so the next step is just start replacing components untill the problem is cured. I have replaced the O2 sensor, and ECT sensor. Next I'm going to replace the IAT sensor.......... then the expensive MAF. And no this is not normal. If all the sensors are reading correctly the ECU should be able to compensate to get the correct fuel mixture. I'm hoping it's not the ECU as I have an expensive Stillen ECU and don't want to have to fork out the cash to repalce that! Anyway, once I get the problem corrected I'll post how things went.

Re you using a stock intake or something aftermarket? If it's aftermarket, does the sensor have somewhere to mount?

i have the n1 dual and an injen intake, and i have the popping under decel pretty bad, but i dont have nay black soot... so im not sure but ive had all sensors checked and i changed plugs and everything and it still does it.. so i just dunno.. unless it just thinks it needs to dump that much fuel? but when u come up with an answer let me know

Do you have a place to mount the sensor? Also is it an s13? I may just have to dup the crap intake and try something different. It never really fit right anyway.
