My e-brake wiring is showing constant ground. Since this is a safety issue with remote start, my alarm installer won't finish until this is resolved. The local Nissan dealership didn't really help me out. The just told me that it shouldn't show constant ground and that the ground location cannot be moved.
Has anybody else experienced anything like this? How did you fix it?
I searched but didn't find what I needed.

No, I dont :-/ . I'm looking for previous experince so that I can give them some suggestions or ideas. I've paid for the install. I don't really feel like doing what I paid somebody else to do.

try disconnecting the switch. if it still shows ground where ever your testing it then theres a short to ground, the easiest way to fix that will be to run a new wire from your switch to the alarm/ecu or what ever.

like the guy said, it should ( and mine does) only show ground when it is engaged. either the switch is broken, or something is off with it. it should be a PBNO I believe.
have you taken a look at the thing? is there something in the mechanism grounding it out? is it adjustable and not adjusted properly? is it a melted POS and in need of replacement? are there S13s at a nearby junkyard or on ZIlvia that you could pick up this piece for about a dollar
^^ those seem like easy places to start

Also check the fluid level sensor.

what alarm do you have and is your car a five speed

You don't have to hook the alarm up to the parking brake unless you didn't want it to remote start without the parking break on. If it is a stick you can just hook up a toggle switch to bypass the clutch sensor and whenever you don't want it to remote start just flip the switch off.

Check the fluid level in the brake master cylinder.
Also remove the center console and check the parking brake switch. It sounds like the switch itself is bent too far forward is constantly contacting the push pin, which causes the wire to ground out all the time.

Car is a five speed and the brake fluid level is fine. I took apart the console on Saturday morning. The switch looked fine. When the e-brake was on, the dash light lit up as it should. It didn't seem damaged at all.
Looks like I'll just have them wire up a micro switch.

That's an option, but I don't want a 'make work' project on something like remote start. I would only have to leave it in gear once and the car would push itself into another car.

What about when the brake is released? You said it's showing constant ground. Does the light go out when the handbrake is lowered?

Yes .

That doesn't make any sense. The wire grounds out when the handle is lifted up. No connection when the handle is lowered.
The light is working correctly. Then the wire must not be showing constant ground.
Are you sure your installer has the right wire?

Nope.
I'll be going back this week. The owner was on holidays when my car was in for the install. I'll have a word with him.

He may have pulled the ground wire for the cigarette lighter by accident or something like that.

I relayed some of the things you said and it seemed to get his brain movin'.
