Basically, I drove to Austin to spend Christmas with family. Car was fine, no sputter or hesitations prior to leaving. Well, about 50 miles out, the car began a very light bump in rev's while the cruise control was set. Cruise-idle was around 2700rpms. I got a little worried.. so I went out and bought some new plugs, because it's cheap and can cause many problems when bad. No such luck, and it even seems to have progressed to a worse state. Now it will bump(like a loss of power for a super extreme brief moment) rev's a little more violently and completely random across the RPM spectrum. No specifics and cannot forcibly make the car do it. Sometimes it feels sluggish when I gun it but it doesn't miss, well, noticably. Just really shows when holding a speed.

I replaced the Fuel Filter and cleaned the distributer cap and rotor up some tonight.. but there really wasn't much of anything to fix on the cap/rotor. they looked fine.

I'm pretty stumped here and I really don't have time until a month after the new year to give the car to a shop (moving in jan and all the holiday stuff going on).. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Ryan

** also a slight suggestion
I have a friend with a 98 SE.. Was thinking of checking my MAF to see if that is causing any issues.. Does a 95 and 98 MAF differ?

just try cleaing the maf, you can do it with brake clean or the specific stuff from nissan (I think). it will only be temporary however.

ah crap, it's slowly getting worse. I'm gonna clean the Maf after work tomorrow, but I took some video with my phone so maybe it could offer more help.

I'm basically holding speed at about 35-40 mph.. and it does this the whole time, all over the RPM spectrum.

Hey bud, looks like your check engine light is on and could be a root of your problems, pull the codes and find out what the ecu thinks is wrong.

double check the rates they are going to charge you......considering it's a holiday you might be about to get raped on the price....

just pull the ecu codes yourself,

unplug the ecu and turn the screw in the back

directions can be found here just search

The ECU itself is messed up.. and will be replaced shortly.. but that isn't what caused it.. Basically, long story short, got a 97' Distributor from a junkyard and car works 100% again.

thanks for the advice guys.
