View Full Version : Looking for quiet exhaust

I have HotShot headers and my current exhaust has become too loud for my tastes.
I am looking for a much quieter canister catback exhaust that would lower sound levels to a much "legal" level.

I have come across the Tanabe Hyper Medallion and became attached to it.
Does anybody have experience with this exhaust?
Is it quiet?

I would also like to ask for other recommendations and stories about other quiet systems.

Thanks a lot!

I've heard good things about the 5Zigen fireball exhaust. I'm not really a fan of 5zigen (never was) but recently I've been taking more notice of them. They have a high quality product for pretty reasonable costs.

As per mike's (fd3s) suggestion, the Greddy SP-series should be a good choice, too.

I have the 5Zigen fireball. It is very quiet, almost too quiet but w/ your headers it should sound nice.

5Zigen. Supposedly gives tons of power, like, online somewhere is a dyno chart of 2 consecutive dynos. One with HKS something exhaust, and the 5Zigen. The 5Zigen gave 12 more horsepower than the HKS. That's impressive.

I have the 5zigen, and gives a noticable power gain across the entire rev range. I LOVE the sound.. so smooth, and sweet. I does sound quite a bit different than the N1, but everyone that hears it compliments me on the note. I have two gripes with the system. 1. It doesn't accomodate the Tow hook. You have to remove the tow hook too keep it from rattling on it. 2. It looks a bit funny how it sticks off the back of the car.

Here is a pic of my car:

hhmm, I don't really like the looks of the fireball. What exactly does the N1 sound like compared too the fireball? I think thats what I'll end up getting.

As for the Hyper Medallion. I have only heard them on civics and tegs. So, this may not mean much, but they aren't loud. Even when you get on it they don't get excessivley loud. Well inside the legal level.

5Zigen Fireball (NA version). 2.5in piping. Unbelieveable hp increase, and only marginally louder than stock.

HKS not exactly sure which one I think the HKS sport or hiper drager is pretty low toned and quiet perfect for your application. Try looking hks website for all different types of exhaust systems. hksusa.com !!!!!!!

i've got a Magnaflow... yeah, diss on me for not buying a japanese muffler, but it sounds great at high RPM's. it's not TOO loud, like the N1... but it does drone quite a bit under 3.5k, and it can get kind of annoying. i'm thinking about switcing for a hyper medallion or possibly the HKS R2. i really like dual tips, so..

Greddy makes some very quiet exhaust as well.
