There is no such thing as a KADET

On to the question you asked. Yes it will work. Basically, Start with the block, and put all the SOHC stuff on it like(timing stuff, water and oil pumps, covers, wiring, motor accs. all that shit) Why not just swap to a DOHC?

I'm sorry I met KADE...

well I'm thinking about doing this because my bottom block on my sohc blew and I'm thinking about replacing it with a dohc bottom block and for the smog put a sohc head if it pass smog..

a guy here in VA who is a one of the top KA fabricators in the nation tried it. Notice i said tried. Called it his Frankenstein motor. He said it wasn't worth all the work. A lot of fabrication.

I read on another fourm about people putting in a sohc pistion in their dohc..
is it because they get more torque??

you end up with higher compression, so yes, you get more torque and power. but not really that much, and it requires premium and other tunning and parts to run properly. if you're just trying to get something running, just find a working engine that someone pulled and swap it in.

i think there would be many issues with the timing chain components working properley. dont bother with sohc pistons. just buy some cp pistons or other brand. sohc,s arnet worth the money or hassle of installing
