View Full Version : D-Max To the United States?
EDO Performance
12-26-2007, 06:09 PM
Hi everybody,
I'm heading out Japan in January and I have a meeting with D-Max. I wanted to get the community's opinion regarding this brand. I noticed there's couple of group buy already going on for this product which means there is at least some demand for it, but I want to know how do you guys feel about it?
My company is looking to pick up another product line, and last year we picked up the US distribution rights for Zero/Sport. This year we got our sights set on D-Max.
If your not familiar with D-Max here is the website http://www.dmax-cs.com/
Please let us know thanks!

but in all seriousness if the markup of prices was similar to that of origin stuff, (around +$100) i would definitely buy d-max.

Listen, and Im not knocking people personally on this board, but as a whole the Nissan community is cheap. Knock-offs run rampant all over the place. You see people posting up stuff all the time that they got off Ebay from some unknown brand. Why? Because it was 35% less expensive than a company who has to put R&D. Or the markup to get it over from Japan.
Keep in mind that the reason Group Buys are successful is the competitive pricing offered by the seller. When he/she makes a deal with a company to purchase a large quantity of units, they can usually pass the savings onto the customer. One of the main reasons I recently purchased a D-Max Hood in the GB section was because i could get it at the same price as Seibon and other readily available hoods in the US. Like someone above mentioned, if you bring D-Max products over and raise the price substantially, you're not going to push many units.

I know more people with Audis and Bimmers and Lexuses with ebay parts than 240 owners.

You are correct in believing everyone wants to save money. However, i know several Supra owners who would never sacrifice their ride with Ebay brand parts. Furthermore, if you ever make it down to Houston to the Supra meet you will see almost everyone from Supras, Vettes, Vipers and other like vehicles who only buy the real deal. When i had my RX-7 i only used the real deal. I believe not only does it have to do with the owner BUT ALSO the VALUE OF THE VEHICLE. I wouldnt want to risk Ebay suspension on a Supra/RX-7. However, with 240sx's being so cheap, you can throw it away and rebuild.

Then i guess i am surrounded by people who put nice parts on their rides and you know lots who put cheap parts on their rides. I guess its all about your environment. My point is I generally see nicer parts on Supras, RX-7s, Vettes and other like sports cars. The owners USUALLY have more money to invest in nicer parts. For example the SAME EXHAUST that i have for my S13 (Greddy TR EVO) was $400.00 cheaper. Im not saying that everyone who has a real sports car is going to put only nice parts on there ride.
So i guess they shouldn't bring DMAX over because EVERYONE IS CHEAP.

Well, reason why I was looking at D-Max is because they have good quality items at a good price. I used to have a S13, so when I was looking at the parts the pricing on it and the quality made it really stand out. I know not everyone is going to spend 2000 dollars on a body kit when there car is worth 1500 :D
Also for all those people that try to save a few buck by buying knock of stuff.... you get what you pay for in the end. I been in the performance industry over 6 years, I have seen nightmares because the owner wants to save couple of bucks and get a knock off part...

It's widely known that d-max body kit and fender fitment is bad. If someone knocks it off, the knockoffs will most likely fit just as good or better. If someone sells d-max here, they better sell it at the retail price ($730) or lower for a full kit. I'd say about $600-700 would be a reasonable price for an authentic kit that doesn't fit well. If you are planning on selling the kits for 2000 dollars, you are sadly mistaken.
For d-max, I think group buys are the way to go for a shop. Maybe stock small stuff like wings and signal lights.

as stated fitment will be an issue. so knockoff will fit the same, be the same amount of work, but for less money. the kits look nice, but is it worth the work, when you track your car and it breaks?
it's good idea to get new comapnies here in the states easier for us consumers, but maybe another company might be worth looking at.
