i heard from someone that ka24DE engines could be found in some pathfinders. i know the new ones have 3.5 liter engines (vq engines not sure though) but what about the older generations. i know the nissan flatbeds had it.

i am pretty sure nissan cars share engines, it lowers the cost.  I know for sure that a nissan frontier has a ka24de,

I know for a fact that the KA24 was used in the 240sx, pickup, and the 4 cyl XTerra (bastardized engine in that poor SUV, DOHC modified weaker than the original SOHC), Frontier, and Altima.

I believe it was also used in the older Stanza, but I dont think it was used in the Pathfinder, those are too spensive <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'>

IIRC the pathfinder never came in a 4 cyl.

Like NismoS14 said &quot; Pathfinder never came in a 4 cyl.&quot;

The 1996 to 2000 Pathfinder &nbsp;used the VG33E.
The 2001+ is using the VQ35DE

the older gen Pathfinder (early-mid 80s) did have 4cyl and IIRC they were based on the KA.....remember that is where our KA began life....as a truck motor!

I thought it was in the Stanza first....

yikes!! i just checked a site and i may have gotten that wrong......Ace ur right about Stanza 90-92 had KA24E and the Pathfinder shows 87-89 with a Z24I .....intro'd 3.0 in 90! the Hardbody shows KA from 90-up. the 240 shows earliest listing of em all at 89-up. correct me if i'm wrong but i understood the earlier trucks had KA-based engine.......?? now i'm curious.... were the earlier truck engines (the Z24I) the predecessors of the KA?

Yeah, and I should be more up on them. &nbsp;But the Z24 engines if I'm correct were from the old Z's, minus a couple cylinders, so their predecessors were the original datsun Z's.

I just wanted to add a little something that was posted on FA.

&quot;Did you know the socalled truck motor in the S13/S14 is built in Japan, and the real truck motor is built in Mexico?

Did you also know the socalled truck motor in the S13/S14 has a main bearing girdle, and the real truck motor does not?

Did you also know the socalled truck motor in the S13/S14 has piston oil squirter/cooler, and the real truck motor does not?&quot;

Now wait just a minute. &nbsp;Are you sure the truck KA is built in Mexico?

the KA could be a derivative of the Z24I engine (??), and maybe those differences that FastNissan listed are what make it a different engine code...?? other ideas?
i always understood the KA was based on a truck engine....but that would mean it had to be out BEFORE 89 cuz thats when it was intro'd in the 240. could the KA have begun life as a JDM-spec engine prior to 89?? maybe thats why it doesnt show up in US-spec applications....??

well not quite correct, the Z series is a decendant from the L series engine. Not from the Z cars . granted Z cars had L series engines in them but by the time we saw the first Naps Z Nissan was starting to put VG30's in the Z. Yes the KA is a decendant from the Z series . Yes The car engine version of it is quite robust bottom end wise. I have said this before , the big fall down on the KA came with the DE . The ports on its head both intake and exhaust are siamesed. Which actually sucks in NA applications. In Turbo setups its not as much of an issue due to the whole forced induction thing.

props to fast Nissan for his faqs
