View Full Version : Electronics aren't working after new battery

Recenlty I had a problem with my car not starting. I figured it was the battery cause none of hte electronics was working. I installed a new battery and the car starts fine.
Problem: Before I got the new battery the alarm kept going off incessantly. The horn wouldn't shut up so I cut the wires to that. Ever since it seems the alarm is always on high alert and wants to stay off.
Now with teh new battery the car starts up and runs fine. Only issue is none of the electronics seems to be connected. My brake lights don't work, my gauges dont' read anything or illuminate. Not even my power locks work. ONly thing that turns on is my HIDs.
Car runs like normal but why isn't anything turning on?
thanks for assistance in this.

the only thing i can think of is that when you disconected the battery and reconected the new one, you forgot to hook up all the power lines going back to the battery.
also did you cut the wires to the alarm before you took out the old battery
if so then that isnt your problem. if you did it after ,then reconnect it and see if that works. most alarms loop through the locks so you would need to hook it back up like it was original, if you plan on cutting the wires to the alarm other wise the locks probably wont ever work....

maybe there are some fuses blown or bad relays

Yup you probably shorted some fuses or relays. Happened to me before.

What did you cut?
My advice is to remove the alarm completely as well as any other aftermarket electronics and return the car to stock. Troubleshoot and solve the problem. Then carefully reinstall the alarm correctly.
Otherwise you're shooting in the dark. Nobody knows what the alarm is doing and how it was installed.

You blew the main battery fuse in the underhood fuse block by the pass strut tower. If you have an s-13 it is a 75 amp maxi fuse if it is s-14 I believe it is 100 amp, but don't quote me on that. Maxi fuses are available at any auto parts store. You DEFINITELY NEED to REMOVE YOUR ALARM though! I mean remove ALL the wiring! If you don't you risk having shorts and mysterious battery draining.

He didn't blow either of those, maybe a lesser one but the main fuses control everything, so the car would never even start. A 45A or 30A is probably dead.

power lines? I thought changing the battery was a direct swap of reattaching (-)&(+) cables.
For you guys with alarms; when your battery dies does your alarm go haywire like mine did?
I can't say for sure I blew a fuse, but I do feel strongly the cause of this is the alarm. I just simply cut two wires going to the horn. When I activate the alarm from my LCD pager it still responds. Its just the remoteless entry doesn't work.
I'm planning to bring my car to a family mechanic. Hopefully he could sort it out.
Hey guys I do appreciate all your advice and insight. I know I should of done a search first before asking since there's hella threads about starting issues. However I was provoked by feelings of confusion and frustration.
When I figure this out I'll respond to this thread so the next person with a similar problem can learn from this.

you probably dmaged the brain for your alarm, I did the same to mine, just swap it out for a new one from an authorized dealer
