Kognition sponsors a wicked ass Scion TC that promises to reign holy terror over
the FWD class in both Time Attack and Speed World Challenge series in 08'.
It's first event debut was just a few short weeks ago for the grueling and bone jarring 25 Hrs. of Thunderhill race. Unfortunately i was not able to attend the race :duh: You can catch it on the most recent Speed TV, or you can view it here http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid1348330702
Kognition supported the team car with custom fabricated race doors, a one off 6lb. carbon fiber roof, and race splitter. The splitter took a beating including having a front wheel come completely off of the car! But in the end, after 25 hrs
it held in there. This was a great race to test any companies products!
The driver roster included Tanner Faust, Matt Varsha, David Pratte, and Gary Sheehan. Team Manager Marshall Pruett did a great job putting the right people together for this event.
You might see my car in the Laguna Seca section of the show where i get a little squirrly in the corkscrew. :D just ignore that.

Thank you :x:
We are starting a new program where customers mail in their splitter templates on a sheet of butcher paper, and we cut out the shape for them. Our new work tables allow us to make splitters up to 4x6 in size, this allows us to make a splitter that can be fit all the way back to the center front axles. Which also serves to protect the oil pan, (which if you saw in the show was punctured on the Spoon Honda early in the race). This can cost a team dearly. And unlike other splitters on the market, ours are kevlar on the underside to resist road debris.
Something interesting that i discovered in a high res pic in my signature
was that in the corkscrew (Laguna Seca), my coolant overflow was spilling coolant when i was at the steepest angle of that turn. And with hoosier slicks on the car, i was not really understanding why i was occassionally sliding and spinning. First i was pretty sure that it was because i ran without my wing this time. And that the weight shift in this corner was causing my back end to lose traction. I did not have my splitter on either that weekend as i was so busy prepping two other cars for this event. Anyway, i think that the coolant in this pic had something to do with my occassional traction loss in this very hard corner. If i had my splitter on, it would have caught all of that coolant as we put absorbant material on our 350Z splitter to help catch oil and coolant. If you look at the pic, it's just sloshing out under my front tire!

Hey Mike.

I just saw the Speed episode yesterday (Tivo the series) and saw that Scion take a nose-dive and drag the front end. All i could think about what "god damn, that CF Splitter is supporting the whole front end as he limps back to the pits  "
LMFAO about Dealership parts car :bowrofl:

Awesome work and craftsmanship for sure.

And yeah, the Honda team after all that way from Japan (correct?) and to lose out on the last 8min of the race :duh:

btw, you guys are running coolant? Not dist/wetter or something?

I had heard some tracks forbid coolant and so not to ruin it for anyone else (cause i do drive a 240, and it will leak) i swapped out to Redline Water Wetter/Distilled Water.

Yes i am still in the dark ages on the coolant i'm afraid. :coolugh:
After that little episode though, i am taking that $hit out!

Kognition- seriously though, what are you running for coolant? Just curious.

I am pretty sure it is off the shelf coolant from Pep Boys. It was called Peak Coolant. I am flushing the system out next week, and i ordered some water wetter.

Yes, do yourself a HUGE favor and get water wetter. Coolant actually HURTS the cooling performance of your car... No bullshit, water alone cools better. The coolant just "protects" the internal parts from rusting. I'm sure you know this already though..

I'm sure you know this already, but run distilled water with the water wetter.

It's just another thing i need to get better control of next year, my motor maintenance. So busy running the business that the car is usually always the last thing i get to work on. :)

I need a front splitter.

Do you guys have any options?

I also will be needing a larger spoiler on my track car as well.

Im going to keep the gc/agx for now. I think aero and brakes will benefit me more now with my hp.

Well as we have found to be the case, there is no one splitter for everyone. We started a program recently where a customer can send us a paper template of their own profile and we shape out the splitter for them. And ship it out. You can make a template with a 4x6 sheet of styrene sheet from home depot, and trace out the shape with a pen and cut that out with a blade. Retrace on painters paper and send that in. I think more people will be running undertrays next season in time attack, it's getting more competitive.
As far as wings go, it is a very good idea to run a wing with some verified downforce.

Any opinions or confirmed results from running a rear-diffuser?

Although ive always hated the way they looked, i was just curious.

And Mike, this idea of customized splitters is awesome. I just might be lcontacting you for a custom one this upcoming season.

Rear diffuser testing will be happening this spring, and i am trying to collect as much information as i can to develop an effective design for both chassis.

so if i wanted a splitter, how much would it be in a ballpark area.
its mainily for protection since im soo low to my underareas, and itd ned to be cut into three sections to ship. and ill mountit back together.

Ethylene glycol does other stuff like.. oh yeah raise the boiling point of water...

Yea, a three piece splitter ain't happening. I wouldn't even make that.
But our splitters are $550 before S&H.

A little confused by this statement. Because water alone would in fact boil sooner than if it were combined with the coolant. I understand water wetter to work better with temperature, but plain water starts boiling off sooner without coolant.

You're suppose to run 70 water 20 coolant and 10 water wetter..

Ethylene glycol has to be there to keep the water from boiling at too low of temperatures...

Okay so there does have to be Ethelene Glycol in there at some percentage then yes?

that splitter must have taken a beating.

It came in 3-5 times missing a front wheel.

Yes the drivers beat the dog$hit out of that car. The benefit of the Kevlar underside definitely came into play when the wheel was coming off. If it just had glass on the underside, it really would have been toast.

i'm really interested in a diffuser.... do you think the one that was in the for sale section (made by raceon usa) was even functional at all?

also wondering how exactly did you attach the carbon roof to the chassis? do you cut off the stock roof and just bolt it to the roll cage or waht? and what about the a and b pillars?

the raceon one is not functional at all

I won't comment on the Race On diffuser. Diffusers can really only be tested on the track or wind tunnel. Very few drivers so far have been using them. Mostly because they are not fully understood. And they require a full undertray setup to be effective at all. There are drivers experimenting with them, but you really have to do your homework to understand fluid dynamics and what is taking place. As far as our roof, the roof is clipped at the top of each pillar. Nothing touches the rollcage. The carbon roof is bonded only at the A and C pillars with a special adhesive that we use to bond our splitter laminates to aluminum honeycomb. There is no B Pillar connection. It's that strong where you only need to bond the A and C Pillars.

The roof was a one off, so it is gonna have to last them all season. I did some extra fabricating for the car, but decided to sponsor the team for splitters because i decided against making TC specific race parts.
