View Full Version : CA18DET and Megan exhaust, one quick question

Got my Megan SR20 o2 housing installed and went to mount up the downpipe for test fitting purposes. The flex section is crammed up against the frame rail and one of the bolts, even if tightened down, would have a good 1/4" of gap or more it seems. Just curious what actions some of you guys have taken with this problem. It appears that cutting and rotating the flange a little on the downpipe would fix the problem, but just wanted to see if you guys were able to do anything else. I was told that if you use the Megan SR20 o2 housing along with the SR20 downpipe everything will bolt up smoothly...wrong. I think I recall reading on some searches I did that guys had problems with the downpipe being up against the framerail, but mine's not even going to be close to sealing against the o2 housing. I'm just curious what you guys did in this situation. A local shop quoted roughly $100 to cut/reweld the flange and just go ahead and install the rest of my exhaust while they had it there.
I'm really just looking to see if you guys have had this problem, if cutting the flange even helped at all or if you had to do something else.

Ok I stumbled across some of the posts I had read a few days ago, appears most guys have to cut and weld their Megan downpipes to fit up correctly, but mostly for hanging to low. I didn't notice any for it being up against the frame rail. I suppose I'll just let the muffler shop deal with that.
If anyone has any other insight, feel free to chip in and let me know.

I have the megan dp with flex pipe and the flanges fit okay but the flex pipe is smacked right next to the frame rail. Makes for some chasis vibrations when reving at a stop but other than that the car shakes and makes so much noises its hard to feel the vibrations while driving.

Hopefully some Chinese kid just welded my flange on wrong and a quick trip to the muffler shop will fix it. I can't wait to get it legal so I can drive it.

I take it your using the oem manifold?

Yep, stock manifold and turbo.

Yup the stock manifold makes the turbo sit on an angle. So the elbow points torwards the framerail.
Here how mine used to be.

I had to cut and reweld the downpipe so that it angled away from the rail.

Same here stock manifold and megan o2housing wont work together, either fix up the Downpipe, or buy a manifold.

What engine mounts are you using? SR/KA or CA?

doesnt matter what mounts. If he uses anything other than CA it will make it worse. The problem is the OEM manifold places the turbo on a angle, its not parallel to the ground. Only way to fix this problem is A. modify the downpipe, B. get a aftermarket manifold.

Well dang, I wish someone had made mention of that on a CA board sticky or something. Oh well, gotta do what ya gotta do.
