View Full Version : HVAC affects on center vent mounted gauges?

I'm going to mount 3 STRi gauges in a center vent pod in my s13. At first, my plan was to build a block off plate inside the vent to prevent cold AC air or hot heater air from blowing on the back of the gauges.

My thought was the cold or heat would negatively affect the gauges (not the accuracy, but the temp cycles might shorten their service life).

Is a block off plate needed?

Will I be fine with the HVAC blowing hot and cold air on the back of the gauges?

Am I just paranoid?

Just remove the ducting that goes from the central hvac plenum box to the center gauges. Leave the one on the floor, the windshield and the sides. That will be enough to air flow in your car without the need for the centers. Or if you wish you can put a reducer on it and plumb it down to the floor as well. Gauges will be fine.

i made a little block off plate for the opening that was left after removing everything, Just made it out of abs plastic then glued it in place. Seems to work just fine, have not had any reliablity problems and the gauges are pretty old.

just dont put your heater on the center vent....only use the feet and defrost options.
