Tigers Kill Man Who Stuck His Arm Into Zoo Cage in Northeastern India

GAUHATI, India —

Two tigers killed a man who stuck his arm into their enclosure in northeastern India on Wednesday, ripping off his arm as his family and dozens of visitors looked on, zoo officials said.

The man, identified as 50-year-old Jayaprakash Bezbaruah, avoided zoo safety precautions in an apparent attempt to photograph the two adult Bengal tigers up close, said Gauhati zoo warden Narayan Mahanta.

"The man ignored warnings from keepers, crossed the first barrier and stretched his hand into the enclosure that housed a male and a female tiger before the animals grabbed his limb and tore it apart at the shoulder," he said.

Bezbaruah was rushed to a local hospital but died of blood loss, said Mahanta.

Bezbaruah, a government official from a nearby town, had been visiting the zoo with his wife and two children.

"I have never encountered such a bizarre incident in my 11 years as a wildlife official. It was shocking," Mahanta said.

what..kill to proctect themselves...obviously they didnt know what the fuck guy was up to...but there protective of there area...hence the attack...plus tigers are endangered species... so i doubt it...

nah man tigers are one of the few big cats that will hunt and eat humans for food even when they arent starving or protecting....most other cats stay away from people and wont get aggressive unless provoked....but to a tiger you might as well be a gazelle or something

^^ I doubt you'd feel it....it would probably be like a stabbing pain and then youd just go into shock pretty quick...your body has its own pain killers that would go to work extremely fast

what a dumbass. very similar thing happened at an Anchorage zoo 10-15 years ago. some stupid woman went past TWO separate barriers so that she could take a photo of some polar bears and got mauled. she lived though.

^^ We had a similar experience of two teenage kids who climbed the fence to go swimming in the Polar Bears exhibit at the zoo. Don't know what gave them that bright idea. Unfortuneately, they DIDN'T live.

When I was maybe 10, we went to the zoo in San Antonio and saw a guy climb a fence in order to take pics of the white tigers in a pit about 30 feet below. There was still a 3 foot wall to hold him and he was leaning over it too. He didn't fall though. But being the dumb kid I was, I climbed over a fence in order to get a better look at the tigers below too. I remember being snatched up by the back of my shirt once my mom realized what i was doing and marching me straight out of the zoo without even going to see any other animals. We had just got there. That was one worst beatings I got for scaring her. LOL.

Also, when I was maybe 15/16 yrs old, I was at another zoo. I was standing with my back to the glass window of the Tiger enclosure. All of a sudden, the tiger takes off running from the opposite side and I hear people gasp and go "OMG!" I turn around to see the Tiger leap in the air in an attempt to pounce on me and hits the glass sprawl eagle. Scared the BEGEEZES out of me!!! I'm so glad that glass was like 6 inches thick cause otherwise, I'd have been lunchmeat.
