what gear do u leave our car in

i leave mine in 4th so that it doesnt jump if i take my foot off the clutch after i start it....someone told me thats bad though...i was just curious what you guys leave yours in.....

an another note i gave a civic crx the satisfaction today.....he comes up behind me and trys to race me by punching it past me and weaving around another car......i started to follow but then said fuck it.....its not worth a ticket or my life.

I leave it in first. Clutch in, start, remove shifter from first (foot on brake), clutch out, sit for a while.

acctually 99% of the time i leave my car in neutral with &nbsp;the e-brake on....but when i do leave it in a gear it is usually 4th.....

you have a point too...i've been drving stick for 5 monthes and i hardly ever forget to put it in neutral

I leave my car in first. &nbsp;Sometimes I leave it nuetral though...only when I don't think to put it in gear....The owner's manual actually says to put it in nuetral, but I don't really see how it matters....

I always leave it in first with the ebrake on except on a down hill I leave it in reverse. The only reason to leave it in gear really is to keep the car from moving, mainly on a hill. Neutral all the time with the e-brake except in the winter, i leave it in 1st and reverse. &nbsp;Man it would suck if my e-brake froze!

I typically leave it in neutral with the e-brakes when I'm on a relatively flat surface.
A few weeks ago, I had the same setup (neutral +e-brake) and was parked at my uncle's driveway which has an incline.
Anyhow, I came there in the afternoon and left two hours later.
For some strange reason, my car started to roll down the driveway as I was walking out of the house.
Man, I got in my car and checked if my e-brake was on and it was; that whole thing tripped me out.
It was a good thing there was nothing parked behind me.
So nowadays, I have it on 1st with e-brakes when it comes to inclines.

1st or Reverse.. The taller the gear, the longer it can turn before it catches.. so whichever gear is the tighest, usually 1st, in some cars reverse, is the gear to put it in. Test it out, park your car on a slope, put your foot on the brake, put it in first, let the brake go, you won't roll back any, or just a little maybe, then put it in 5th and let the brake go, you will roll back a few feet. But i always put it in Reverse if I was going to be backing up, or first if i was going to be going forward.

I used to just leave the e-brake until i thought that someone stole my car... If I have to leave it in gear it's usually first. &nbsp;It's rare that I do, usually only on a steep hill or in the garage if my brakes are still pretty hot.

I once parked at my friend's shop after some hard driving while the brakes were warm. &nbsp;I parked in the shade on a slight hill across the way. &nbsp;I came out later and my car had rolled into the spot in front of the shop about 5 feet from his 510. &nbsp;Pretty weird. &nbsp;I guess when I parked my brakes were good for the e-brake setting but as they cooled they slipped and it rolled forward. &nbsp;So now parking with warm brakes always makes me nervous.
