Few questions for ya'll guys on this wonderful Zilvia board...

1) Sitting in neutral, reving to about 5000rmps to get my next problem situated.... and the car hops forward about 3 inches... im on a flat ground, so i didn't have the break applied. Any ideas? Clutch going? i'd doubt it though.. i dunno

2) My car likes me, doesn't like me.... I got it almost a month ago, and its been running like crap. I did a full tune up, and no fixie of my problems. So i decided "screw it, i can drive until i get enough money to take it into the shop". The car is running crappy, entire body vibrates, engine moves back and forth about 2-3 inches when idling and it sounds like a lawnmower out of my new exhaust that i put on a week ago. Then, like 5 days ago, we had lots of rain around and the car started up and was idling high (1.2k) and then warmed up to about 700rpms and was accelerating fast, not sputtering, or anything of the sorts. So today on my way to school, i notice parking across the street, but i see cars coming and dont want to risk going around the block, so i pull over to the sidewalk, and pull a fast 20mph u-turn and when i pull up to the space, i notice the car is running like shiat again. I'm guessing something with the car whipping around did something, but now its back to its old ways.

any suggestions, ideas, or clues about what the hell is going on? I really wanna go autocrossing this weekend, but with my car running like crapazoid, i dont want to take it up. Please Help Soon

I'm not sure about your other probs, but if your engine is moving side to side 2-3 inches at IDLE, you got some serious probs. Your engine is meant to move around a bit, but if it's doing it that much at idle, I'd guess one or both of your engine mounts is either damages or broken. NOT good. What year is your car?

The damaged engine mount makes sense to me for your U-turn story... the engine could have been partially seated correctly as your were driving, but as you gunned the engine to make the U, it would shake fairly violently for a moment, enough to throw the positioning of a bad motor mount out of whack at least... How this would affect your idle speed I couldn't say. Hope this helps you a little bit... and I hope you can find it's something other than a mount. I just changed X-members last week (what the motor mounts, mount to) and it was NOT fun.

Interesting New stuff has happened...

About 1/2 day later, the car started running good again. Then ran crappy, then ran good.... then it started up crappy, warmed up good, then went crappy... something's loose and im not sure what the hell it is.....

I've had a problem like that before and I narrowed it down to the water temp sensor. Just pop your hood and wiggle the sensor a little bit and if it starts to act right or get worse thats the problem

I'd say either engine mounts and/or electrical quirks. Examine all your connectors. Check your battery with a voltmeter, make sure it's around 14 or so with the car running. Have you changed your fuel filter? If that was clogged with a piece of crap, your u-turn could have dislodged it so that it blocked your intake fuel for a sec or two.

the same thing happened to my brothers car (96 MX-6 V6) and it never hurt anything. We never figured out the problem but it never should any affect. So I personally don't think its much to worry about.

And I know better than anyone what its liek to have a 240 that doesn't like you. I had my car for a week exactly and I backed into somebody in a parking lot. First accident ever, and later that same day my engine blew with only 60,000 miles. Then 2 days after i got my car back I had a hit and run on my front bumper, now they painted my front bumper and my rear bumper where I hit the guy the wrong color white. But it has gotten better now, and I think she has finally excepted me. Just have to get the car painted again

Ha Ha... Yes... the 240sx is a moody one. I had mine for a week, and got cut off and went into a guardrail. Now, once i got a new door and painted it myself (note... paintscrach.com sucks a$$, 3 days later my car got backed into. Then, after a while it started working for me and now im at my current state of switching from good engine to bad engine. Hopefully with all the treatment i've given her ( a tune up) and just some love and care, she'll accept me eventually
