I'm running an ebay n1 style exhaust 3'' catback no res.
Sits super low to the ground, but sounds sexy when I'm in boost.
Cost me $170 shipped to my door, I'm happy :)

o really? because greddy,apex..etc there going for 500+$$$...so i was thinking i can save so much if an ebay exhaust system can do the same shit
downshift_sideways

Shit a 3'' exhaust is a 3'' exhaust. It serves its purpose.

exactly what i'm saying..just want to see if anyone had any problems with fitment issues and how noisy are they..i'm in the middl of putting a sr20det red top into my s14 chasis..right now money is so tight..i just want to know is it nessary to spend so much on a exhaust system..if half of the cost of my engine price.

Mines loud as hell.
Because of 3'' DP, 3'' Test pipe, 3'' catback w/no resonator.
I sound off all the alarms down my street. :keke:

12-17-2007, 06:33 AM
haha..yea over here i would get a ticket thats why i need to know will these brand name ones be the same shit vs a ebay one where you save over 300 bucks..

I have one and it does not fit right, it hits on the subframe, were the lower contrlo arm pivots
tony96240sx
12-17-2007, 07:06 AM
yea i figured the ebay ones wouldnt fit right..it might cost me more in the long run to custom fit the pipes for the ebay ones..

i had on my old s13 it was decent went on just fine just loud as fuck made my friends straight piped honda sound quiet but i only got hassled by the police once for it
tony96240sx
12-17-2007, 07:18 AM
i def dont want it louder then a honda...geez is there any exhaust system out there for a decent price and sounds good?

12-17-2007, 07:21 AM
i have an ebay three inch, not too loud, but hits the subframe.
wrapped a bunch of muffler bandage around the place where it hits, and now i have no problems.
probably not to loud because i have a resonated test pipe.

You can normally find used name brand exhausts for around 300 shipped. I paid 325 shipped. It came with oem silvia DP, nissan cat, HKS full stainless silent hi-power cat back for my s14 barely used.

12-17-2007, 07:40 AM
i paid $275 for my megan racing full 3inch,test pipe,no res, off ebay i love it and its not too loud but just right, i'd like it alot louder tho
well if you were in socal. i would say juss get custom haha.
juss get piping and make your own spec 2.
but for the east side. ya ebay would work. and for hitting exhuast on subframe use stiffer bushings. on your exhaust.
i got one for 220 shipped 3 inch pipe with resonator and 4.5 inch tip the fitment was great and the weld are great had it for to years no rust. only thing is that it sits a little low so if you slam your car it will scrape. mine take a beating and still has no holes.
just get it.
murda-c
12-17-2007, 08:11 AM
mine sits really high, which is why it hits the subframe.
it's cool though because it doesn't scrape

Long story but I ended up with a free new Skunk2 stainless n1 style 3" catback exhaust, it looks like the same one they sell on ebay. Quality of the welds is great, sounds great, installs cleanly. I would recommend skunk if anyone cares lol

dam they make exhaust? how much did the catback cost you?

bought the ssac duals 2 years ago. It was a headache to say the least. Ended up just paying 80 bucks for midas to cut the resonator and install straight pipes/new hangers so it all fits and I can go over speed bumps without dragging (still have to go sideways).
tony96240sx
12-17-2007, 09:00 AM
yea i figured..tight now money is so tight i might end up selling my 96 240sx-se shell..and thinking of buying a 6 speed 03 maxima

ive got the ebay n1 duals catback. sounds mean, not extremely loud but you know its there. i really doubt ill ever spend big bucks on a nice exhaust ever again . car is soo low that it murders anything on there. i trashed my first apexi n1

If you want...you can go and have a muffler shop make you one. I have the cat and the resonator removed with the pipe going from the DP all the way to the muffler. They make the bends and do all the welding. Don't know how much they charge where you are at but i got all the 3" pipe from the DP all the way to the muffler for $55. They made all the flanges and I just had to provide a muffler. Hope that helps!

ebay is so tempting but they say you pay for what you get ....i might just do the swap and have the downpipe attach to the engine so i can atleast start the car till i can afford a good catback

here's how i feel. i'm rockin the XS power. it came with EVERYTHING, and i mean everything (stainless mani, elbow, straightpipe, dp, cat back). i wish the tone was deeper like the hks hi-power, but you get what you pay for. the only difference i feel is the tone. performance is the same as it's a simple straight canister type muffler. but i got everything for like ~325 shipped. here's a shit tone of pics i took when i was installing:

My friend has had his ebay exhaust on his S13 for about 2 1/2 years nothing is wrong with it at all. It sounds deep, only had one problem running it hard for about 30 min one night the exhaust was glowing red. I would buy one though, you can't beat 150 bucks shipped for a cat-back, however I liked the deal on the buddy club so I got that. The tip on it is sweet not the huge ass muffler. :)

My friend has the SSAC N1 Duals on his s14. It hit his differential when he first got it two years ago. From what I remember, he had to modifiy the hangers then it was perfect.

I have one that looks almost exactly the same as the xs one the guy above has. I'm putting it on as soon as I get the frame welded. Tell you how well it works. It's stainless steel with resonator and it looks great - 3in with a 4.5 in tip. I got it from just intercoolers - fast shipping and cheap. looks like a good product I'll tell you how it sounds. Anything is better than the rusted one I have on my 91 right now.

I have the same one, I think I actually convinced you to buy it. Perfect fitment, hollow hangers, strong, clean welds, good ground clearance, you really can't go wrong. I paid $210 shipped when they first came out, but that's still cheap for a full stainless exhaust. You'd spend twice that having one made in stainless. It also came with a silencer, which helps a lot for noise issues.

Alot goes into making an exhaust. A straight exhaust is a straight exhaust, anyone with a pipe bender and a welder can make that. However you have to take into account the materials used.
Is thin wall tubing used to save weight? If yes then it will be louder due to the thiner walls, etc. Just some things to look for..

It's a pipe with a muffler. There really is no engineering behind an exhaust, as long as it fits the car properly, lines up, and doesn't rattle or resonate, the only other thing you're concerned with is looks and sound level.
It has nothing to do with anyone's preference except your own.

i had the ssac dual n1 on my s14 and it sounded awesome. FOr $150 shipped, it didnt seem too bad, but in time it kinda fell apart on me. The resonator sat real low and the pipes would rattle on the diff. I had to bend the hangers and use zip ties to pull it away. After I got coils, thats when it went to hell. The resonator took a dump as it was so low, the road tore it apart. The final icing on the cake was when a hanger broke off, but took a piece of the pipe with it. There was a huge hole in the exhaust!! Not too mention, the metal was thin as paper. If it wasnt for the poop quality, it would have been an awesome exhaust for $150. Heres a vid of it on my old s14:
