Did a couple of quick searches on here for this.. nothing thorough.. so if i missed it.. flame me and paste the link.. haha.

but i am pretty sure i did some ok searching.

Anyways i need to know waht kind of grease is included in the Nissan rebuild kit for the rear z32 calipers..

here is a link to what i am talking about.

http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CP&Product_Code=44120-Z32

best that i found-
all the internal seals and dust protectors had a coat of grease on them when i disassembled...i would imagine it is some sort of high temp grease...looked like a lithium grease it was a light grey/white color. the seals are what seems like a urethane, they deffinately aren't rubber.

which by looking at it.. it does appaer to be a lithium grease.. just wondering if anyone knows.

nissans is pink-ish, and I believe auto parts places just sell it as "high temperature grease" or brake grease

Any grease that is included with brakes is always going to be some kind of high temp grease. Nothing special about it. Even the grease they brand as "caliper grease" is just high temp grease. You can get it at any parts store for 5 or 6 dollars. Lucas is always good.

Pretty much what i thought.. just had someone suggest some other stuff and got me second guessing myself.

I rebuilt a few other calipers using the same stuff and in over 2yrs never had a problem so what the hey.

thanks for the replies. +1's

when I rebuild i just use brake fluid. Clean simple and it works. No need to contaminate anything. oh and by the way for the money centric parts# 143.42024 rebuild kit is about 10 per side for z32 rears. I just used that kit to do mine not even a month ago no Problems.

I dont have a centric parts here locally.. however Autozone had the rebuild kit for about the same price. does the kit u purchase include the seals that go in between the faces?? the 2 o rings?

wow, they had the rear rebuild for that price??????? Are you sure because they told me the same thing but when I drove down there they said it was on back order. It was the same for every store. I had to call centric parts directly and the order through a company they recommended. Zeckhausen racing if I remember correctly and even then I had to call for them to put in a special order. The only store that could get it around me was napa but the wanted 42 per side.

Oh and to answer the other part. It didn't come with the o rings I had to buy a viton o ring kit from harbor freight.

Oh to clarify my surprise the front kit is dirt cheap but the rear kit is like 90 from nissan and hard to find.

Trust me I was surprised and made him look it up again. Rear rebuild should be here at lunch time tommorrow. I actually have the 5million poce harbor freight o ring kit. My game plan was to use them so if they worked for you then it should work for me.

Thanks for the info

This is absolutely 100% correct. DO NOT use grease to lube the o-rings on the calipers! It can contaminate the brake fluid. Also remember that those rubber seals are designed to seal brake fluid, using a petroleum based grease can cause the o-rings to fail prematurely.
