I did a search and couldn't really find the info I was looking for but, I was wondering what the best way to completly change the color of my brown interior on my S13 '89 Coupe. This is including the dash and trim and everything.

Paint it.

Paint sounds like it would turn out kind of cheap. Do you know of anyone who has done this or have any pics?

Don't use cheap regular touch-up paint. Go get the good stuff from an Upholstery shop, or have them do it for you.

Ya, I need to fix up the black part of the dash/centre cause mine is all scratched. Can I buff that out or does it need to be repainted??

You can do anythingif you put your mind to it !
but anyway, try buffing it out, if it doesn't work, then try repainting it.

You could also try vinyl trim? Recover everything in quality vinyl or Fiberglass. I've been looking into these options briefly because I want to change my interior as well.

What do you use to buff out the black plastic? is it painted black? can I use paint cleaners and such or do I have to use a plastic polish?
thanks

Yeah, brown sucks. I think it came in alot of the metallic tan 240's. Heres the best thing Ive found so far.....its a spray on dye that changes the interior color. Keep in mind that with a brown interior, you probably can only go darker (black). Ive also found a place that sells carpet kits, so you can switch out that khaki carpet that came with the brown plastic interior.

I did it on my car, I really don't know if I have any pictures. It turned out pretty good. Just make sure you're in a closed space where there is no wind (inside a garage) and use interior spray paint. They have this paint in a local performance shop for about $20 a bottle or so. Make sure you clean the dash with an all-purpose cleaner first. Spray from about 1-2 feet away, make sure you do it evenly. Every coat is visible...
My interior on my '91 was also brown, beige exterior. I really and honestly enjoyed painting it. I also painted the seats with some cloth paint <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>. It was about $4/bottle and I found it in a local parts store. All in all, it turned out really good, I got a lot of compliments on it. I wasn't really 100% finished with it, but I had to sell the car.
Good luck!

what color Irene?? My interior is brown and I just got a set of 98 seats front and rear for $50 and they are grey with that funny pattern in the middle . I would like to change my whole interior over to grey or dark blue.

Mine used to be this poop-brown. I painted it black. They have various colored sprays. If you'd like, I can ask the guy what colors he has and how much would he ship them out for.

Irerne, did you take out your entire dash to do so? If so how hard was it and how did you find all the screws?

Alright every body interested in some sick interior listen up. Im in the middle re doing all my interior. All you need to do is go to your local fabric store (fabric depot here in phoenix) and ask for tweed. This is a tight knit material that look the best. You buy some tweed (probably $10-15) a yard, and buy a couple of cans of spray adhesive glue (like $5 a can). I started with 5 yards of grey, and 2 yards of black. With the black I was able to wrap the inside of my steering wheel, steering column, Insides of the door panel, kick pods, console storagelid, glove box, and with the grey my console, pillars, door panels, and im working on my dash. And wrapping these pieces isn't as hard as you would think. All you have tod is
1. pull out each piece you want to wrap
2. lay the piece like the lid to the glove box down on the tweed and cut the tweed aroud the piece leaveing a couple of inches all the way around so you can glue and wrap the excess around the back of the piece.
3. You then take your cut out piece of tweed and lay it down so you can spray glue on the back of it. You spray a butt load of glue on the piece (the glove box), then spray a light coat on the back of the tweed.
4. Wait a few minutes for the glue to set.
5. lay the fabric on the piece and but once you lay it its stuck so do it right the first time.
6. Work all the edges down with your finger tips and wrap excess to the back.
7. BUy a bunch of single edge razors and cut lines in the corners so you can wrap the excess to the back then you spray more glue on the outside edge so you can lay lay down and keep it from pulling up later.
Thats basically it. It might sound complicated but if your smart you'll figure it out and youll be happy when youve got the sh-- interior for like $150 tops. The nice thing is you can keep regluing if you have problems and getit right. If you have any other questions e-mail me and I'll help you out. I spent like 20 minutes typing all this out so somebody better read it and go do it. Trust me it looks good.

I changed the interior on a '83 280ZX. It was Dallas Cowboys silver and blue and all faded. I took every piece of trim out of the car except the dash. Lucky for me it was dark blue already. I used the interior dye and a aerisol charged sprayer. (paint store) It looked great and held up for years. While I was at it I did the silver seats. The where in pretty good shape just silver. So I sprayed them with the dye, let them dry a couple of days and then...Took a wire brush after them. LOL sounds crazy but they turned out great. Kind of metalic blue.
