...LOL!

Mazda has always had a problem with their rotary motors apex seals and all and they released a 4 stroke for motor for alimited amount of time. it got very good gas and was also fairly reliable. just not as Torquey as the rotary and had slightly less HP. Naturally a person going out looking for a sports car at the dealership more than likely is going to pick the rotary motor over the piston motor.

I'm pretty sure that's wrong.

What you may be referring to was the Nissan Silvia S110 which was suppose to come out with a rotary that was designed and built by Nissan, but they had trouble with that and released it with a 4cyl instead. (Imagine if that was successful... we'd all be driving rotaries as well)

Mazda never released a RX anything with pistons.

And yes a Rotary engine with pistons does exist... in airplanes.

Difference between rotary and radial engines

There has been some confusion when comparing Rotary engines and Radial engines. When looked at from the outside, both Rotary and Radial engines look strikingly similar.

The difference between these two engines is that Radial engines have pistons that move in a reciprocating fashion that cause the crankshaft to rotate. In rotary engines however, the crankshaft does not rotate. Instead, the cylinders that accommodate the reciprocating pistons will rotate around the crankshaft.

In aviation, planes that use Radial engines have their propellers connected in one way or another to the crankshaft while the cylinders and crankcase are mounted on the airframe. Planes that use Rotary engines however, have their propellers connected to the cylinders and crankcase while the "crankshaft" is mounted onto the airframe.

An external difference is that radial engine cylinders are usually finned for cooling, whereas rotary engine cylinders are often not finned, as the cooling is sufficient without the extra expense and complexity of construction.

When I got my first 240 hatch in 1996 I thought it was FWD. An older friend told me it was. So I figured he'd know, and it was my first car. Only after my lil brother totaled the car and i was on my 3rd Datsun 510, did I realize all those rain spin outs where because its RWD.
Then After baby sitting my older friend numerous times when he was drunk, I figured out he was an idiot too.

So I slept with his GF :)

some acuras have longitudely mounted fwd v6's. but its not that big a deal. but i know what you mean about mistaking 4's and 6's but i take into account that a) people dont pay attention when they type or 2)alot people are inherently retards when it comes to cars

we had some guys come to SDP once with an MX-6 they got for drifting.

were told them it's fwd.

they said it's rwd because they can drift it.

we told them again it's fwd.

they went back outside to do a burnout to see which wheels spun, but they couldn't do it.

finally we went out there, popped the hood, and explained how the motor was mounted, and pointed out the transaxle, and told them to get under it and see that there's no driveshaft or diff in the back.

they still didn't believe us. they said when they drift they can hear the rear tires screeching.

no shit.

then they asked how much a rwd conversion would cost.

we told them $50k just to get rid of em.

and they left.

The Cressida's successor in the US is the Avalon. Nothing in the chassis was the same, it was a completely different car but it filled the same gap the old Cressida left. It was Toyota's new luxury vehicle (not Lexus).

As for the Longitudinal Engine in an Acura
It was a 1991-1995 Acura Legend

i cant blame people for not knowing a FWD from a RWD and a straight 4 from a V6. If you have just taken your car to the dealer and to jiffylube your whole life, you wouldn't know.
It would be like a 1 1/2 year old looking into a bowl of alphabet soup. its just a bunch of letters. like an engine would look like a bunch of parts. Not till you learn the alphabet and spelling, does you soup become words and letters.

make sense?

Or I could have said engines to the average person are like Steven Segal movies to the world.

the engine turns on, and water goes in here, gas there, and air in the tire. Steven has an old buddy get into some trouble, something is high jacked, he moves his hands fast and almost always breaks an elbow while kicking but.
But the rest of the parts/movies are indistinguishable from the rest.
