i have a civic hb that i swapped an engine into a few months ago, and i was planning on turboing it(already have the manifold and wastegate), but i feel like reardrive and a factory turbo motor may be calling my name.

im looking into trying to find an s13(preferably 91-94) and swapping in the s13 sr20det, but i also like the looks of the 95+ 240s. the s13 swap seems fairly straightforward, but what about the s14 into the 95+ 240s? and also what is the difference between the red top and black top s13 motors?

i know, lots of Qs, but im very interested in perhaps selling my car for a rwd beast(after mods of course).

and how long and difficult is it to do the s13 swap, say compared to a b18b swap into a 92 civic(pretty easy swap).

thanks, and i did search around.

Is that a ???

If you searched around you should know all the answeres.
If you have the $$ get the "BLACK TOP" S14 swap. It has more HP <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sly.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':sly:'> .
Good to hear that your gettong off the Band Wagon

ive honestly searched and looked around for the answers. &nbsp;im not use to how this forum is setup, so im not as avid a searcher as most. &nbsp;i still like my honda, and if i were to finish my turbo project with it it would be pretty damn fast. also, how is the black top different?

any other help?

The "black top" engine came in the s14s with 220 or so horsepower and a variable valve timing system if I remember correctly. Electronic ignition as well.

The "red top" engine was the earlier sr with 205 hp at the crank, standard distributor, and standard timing system.

All in all, if you plan on building and modifying the motor anyhow, it doesn't matter at all which motor you get.

And, keep in mind you don't need to swap motors to make a powerful car. The engine that comes with it is pretty beefy, and very boost happy if you want to turbocharge it.

thank you misnomer for that little classic zilvia addition. &nbsp; It's nice to go stock and get the sr20, if you like stock.
Anyway, don't be scared of putting a turbo on the KA, it will make more power then the b18. &nbsp; However, the sr20 is nice, and if you want a JDM image, then get that.

most of us here at zilvia are pretty big fans of the turbo KA, but we don't like to argue the merits of the sr vs. ka

I thought there were 3 distinctly different blacktops: the S13 blacktop that was exactly the same as redtop that came in later years of 180sx, only difference was that the valve cover was painted... well, black! Both this blacktop and redtop came with T25 turbo. -- Then the S14 black top (had a notch or sth at the end of the valve cover) which came with the T28 turbo, and then the S15 blacktop without a 'notch' which is still different from the S14. (or something to that extent)
Correct me if I'm wrong!

edit: The SR swap is NOT NEARLY as straightforward as a B18 swap, if what I'm told is true. we have to swap out (or heavily modify) our wiring harnesses, and with older S13 chassis' ('90 and earlier) there is an issue with the power steering reservoir/pump getting in the way. We also need to swap out (or modify) the gauge cluster/dash.

isnt it true that with a 91-94 you dont have to get any ps stuff or change out the cluster? &nbsp;and i read that there is someone that can do the harness for me for a certain $$, anyone know who and how much? &nbsp;im just wondering about the difficulty of the swap because the the rear drive. &nbsp;how exactly does it get dropped in? is it attach tranny then drop in motor and bolt up to tranny? &nbsp;lift up the whole thing from underneath, or what? thanks.

Exactly. &nbsp;Everyone knows that role belongs to Ferrari. &nbsp; And for the plebes who can't afford that, they get the next best thing: &nbsp;a Porsche.

About the SR. &nbsp; You drop it in with the tranny attached. &nbsp; And the swap isn't that bad. &nbsp;Only reason I didn't do it myself was a lack of a garage and a hoist. &nbsp;Being in college sucks like that. &nbsp; But beyond swapping some wires around, it's not so bad. &nbsp;Go for it. &nbsp;I wish I had done it myself...I wouldn't be wasting so much time fixing shit the installer fubar'd.

GRRRRR damit I typed this nice reply and it didnt post it. &nbsp;ok lets try again. swaps pretty easy check out www.sr20.hybrids.jp or www.srswap.com or www.unstable-hybrids.com &nbsp;for all the info needed. &nbsp;wiring is about the hardest thing.

engine goes in an S14 just as easy as an S13.

The S13 redtop and blacktop are the same save for the color change

S14 went to a lowport intake design, added VTC and went to a T28 slants down at the back of the valve cover.

S15 added bigger injectors and a BB T28. &nbsp;the lowport intake is supposedly not as good for running high revs, probably not what you would like then coming from high rev hondas. &nbsp; &nbsp;there hope that helps and hope it posts this time
