it's HOT.  i have no idea.  no one measures this.

i'm curious...why are you asking all these weird questions?  not that that's bad.  i just want to know.

but honestly, the turbo outlet elbow is HOT.  way hot.  like probably in the neighborhood of 350 degrees or more.  hot.  remember, just on the other side of the center section is the turbo and the temps over there are like 1500 degrees when you're really pushin' it.

are you trying to make plastic IC pipes or something?

thanks for the replies.  lol, i guess i really didn't notice the wierdness of my questions until it was brought to my attention.  Well what im trying to get at....
recently i stumbled across mike's se-r article about water injection(never really knew about it until then) so it seemed really appealing to me.  Now im trying to work it into a project silvia im planning for this may.  I'm trying to understand the relationships between the type of cooling a water injection system provides, and the type of cooling an intercooler would provide.

from what i've been able to research, both provide cooling of intake air temp....but water injection helps cool temp in the combustion chamber and makes the "burn" more controled.

this is where im confused... Air chilled by an intercooler with no water injection, even though it is colder than it would normally be, gets the combustion chamber hotter???  i read this in an article.  i forget which one but i'll find it.

can anyone help me out?

i think it also has to do with what turbo config you are using

bigger turbos spin slower than say a smalll turbo like a t28

Are you thinking water injection, or an air-to-water intercooler?  
Water injection is a funny thing to mess with.  Odd things can happen, like uneven distribution of water particles, which would deteriorate the burn.  
Also, there would be more weight due to the need for a lot of water, as well as an additional injector, and various lines and containers.  Then the other problem would be:  When will you run water injection?  If it's all the time, then when you run out of water, you will run hot, and burn out rings and stuff.  Also, water will evaporate in heat if there is the slightest leak in the container or system.
If you don't run water injection all the time, but have a higher boost level preset on your boost controller, and only run water during overboosting... hope you have enough water to do it.  Or "THUD!... clink clink clink"
I just think it is a lot of problems for a car... and boost is addictive, so when you overboost, then go to normal... you won't like it, knowing what you could have.
But... if it's still for you, let us know how it comes out!

Nah, im not talking about an air-to-water intercooler. I was looking to water injection because i was looking for a proven and reliable way to prevent detonation. I came across water injection first through SCC in an article about turbo components. At first i was thinking "what?? shooting water IN an engine?" So being extremely sceptical i looked more into it. However all i could find were good things to say about it. Not only retailers of the system were praising water injection, but many turbocharged car owners (from MR2 turbos to Syclones and even a Lotus esprit!<img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'> who had installed the system were very very happy with the results. One thing i found very interesting was that the Ford Cosworth Trubo comes standard with specifically an Aquamist wanter injection system

Soooo...on i go looking more into exactly how it works and how it would be applied to my particular need. (which is why i was trying to figure all those wierd questions lol) Anyway, I found some of the sites i was checking out if anyone is interested.
