Well I am finally makin a note worth post. Not really an active memeber, but god, if you have the log file, you would see i come here.. ya about every 30minutes. well i was wondering if anyone out there could help me come up with reasons a 240sx is a good car. I mean i think it is, but think along the lines of parents. Like safety, reliability, insurance. I mean i know insurance will be a lil more then the car I am driving now (me n my turbo charged volvo ) Anyone have ideas? I mean we all know and love the 240sx/silvia, but i just need to get my mom to say yes, and then its all mine. How beautiful my 240sx would be. Not a ricer but a respectible ride. Help a guy out please. Thanks

Well, what kind of Volvo do you drive? Because I don't think you'll get by with saying it's a safer car than a Volvo...hehe. Those things are tanks. I can tell you what NOT to mention...

Don't mention:
It's RWD
It's considered a sports coupe
Your insurance will go up
It's really "fun" to drive in the winter

Hehe...truthfully though, insurance will probably be one of your rents concerns. Unfortunately the 240 is in like Insurance class 1 or 2 IIRC. Insurance classes go by letters first, then numbers. So Z is the cheapest insurance, to A, the highest (of the Alphabet). Then...THEN, you get into the numbers...1-whatever...1 being more expensive than A, 2,3....and so on. That's how my insurance rep explained it to me. Definitely check out how much your insurance will be first though...good luck!

Its a V70station wagon. I mean its fast, n fun to beat the hell outta. Ya, I have failed to mention all those things to my rents. but beggin always helps I mean I will do anything for a 240sx, well almost. I should take pictures of my V70 n be like PIMP RIDE lol... Its been in a few small accidents, neither being my fault. The first was a rear end and the girl who hit me was just not payin attention what so ever. And then the second, I was comin off a ramp and this lady is changin lanes, first in my lane then in the other and as i just speed by her, (vrooom vrooom) she talkin on her damn cell phone starts to change lanes, I can see this so i start for my brakes and just blair my horn at her. SHe looks over at me and I am like grrrr... So she slows WAY down, tryin to put distance between us. i was like hell no get back here. So I pulled over and she did too. still havent gotten that one fixed, She wont call me back. grrrrrrr

Things of the top of my head you can tell them:

1: Reliable
2: Cheap, repairs and overall cost (most the time)
3: 4 seater car (insurance goodie)
4: Automatic Seat Belt Discount (insurance goodie for S13's)
5: ABS or Air bags if you get an S14 will save you more insurance

All I can think of, but Im also hacking up organs coughing so hard, so back to bed it is for me.

here is my .02:
1) Get a job
2) Buy it yourself

That is what I did. It's pretty much fool proof.

Well I would get me a job, but with my schoolin, its hard as hell to get a job. I mean yes I have free time, and trust me I am more then willing to fill that free time with a job to get myself a 240sx. The problem is, well... no one will hire me because of the fact i can only really work weekends. I mean wtf?!?! It just really sucks oh well...

Well, I assume you are in an younger age group. You can tell your parents that you won't really be taking many passengers in a 240sx. Fewer distractions, fewer people at risk. Typically decent gas mileage (my s13s get between 26 and 30). It's prolly less powerful than a turbo V70, though with it's lighter weight that's prolly a misnomer (don't tell them that, though). Reliable, easy to work on. . . It's not a Honda. . . uh. . . um. . . 13 fastbacks have decent cargo capacity (I could sleep in mine). . . Decent crash test ratings. . . Wimmin like them. . . they're "pretty". . . I'm done.

Well the reliablity is exceptional. I haven't had one unscheduled maintenance problem in 53k miles (as long as I've had the car). Change that oil and you are good to go.

Crash tests are average (for S14 - 95-98) Air Bags lower insurance, as do the auto belts (in s13 - 89-94).

Another selling point that seems to go untouched is the fact that the handling for a stock 240 is way above par. This means that you can sometimes get out of a situation in a 240 that you might spin another car in. With a proper wheel tire combo on a stock suspension setup, you will reach the same skidpad rating as a late model Viper.

Overall, you won't be dissappointed in a purchase of a 240. They aren't the fastest or the quickest or the best handling, but they sure are alot of fun, and our community shows that!

You guys forgot to mention that on the S14 w/ABS, he would have limited slip differential when addressin the safety issues (tag teamed with the airbags/ABS options from before) I average about 27MPG with slight modifications, very little hindrance in reliability and besides, tell them it's just a REALLY COOL CAR.
