Are s13 catalytic converters interchangeable with s14 (rear) catalytic converters?

Search isn't working for me on this one... It just comes up with an empty page with no Zilvia results.

it might bolt up, but if your s14 is obdII then it will trip your check engine light. obdII cats are three way catalysts and process emissions in a very different fashion than obdI cats.

I don't think I understand your question. What do you mean by S14 (rear)? If you're talking about the resonators on the stock exhausts, then I'm not sure.

From what I understand, the OBDII s14's have 2 cats on them. Despite the production date being 4/94, I can scan it with the OBDII scanner at work, so I think mine is OBDII. I already get a CEL going because of an EGR flow malfunction. I'm taking off my cat because for some reason it rattles like no tomorrow... I think one of the catalyst bricks is loose. I have a cat from when i had another s13, but its at a friend's house...

The manual s14s had a front cat at the downpipe and a dummy cat after that. On the auto s14s they had both cats. If you think about it, aftermarket test pipes are advertised to fit all s chassis cars. So doesnt it make sense that a s14 2nd cat would bolt on to the s13?

So you're telling me that the cat that's rattling its ass off is a DUMMY CAT?!?

That bitch is gone.

The secondary 'catalytic converter' is indeed just a resonator on S14s, though some cars I've taken apart do have some honeycomb material in them. No one can confirm it but it's been decided that depending on production date, plant, and inventory on hand some models got S13 units installed in place of the resonator since they had some leftover. It's more prominent on earlier model autos, but I have seen one on a 96 5speed as well. The primary converter, the only one that matters, is in the downpipe, just below the manifold.

That's good to know. I have one of those eBay 'High flow cat'/resonators on order. Mine was built in early 94 at plant code 'W' IIRC.

Does anyone know if all OBDI cats work the same on any car? I have a cat from my brothers 80 somthin civic he put on and took right off for smog. Would that work on my 91 KA24DE? I tried asking the tech at the smog shop but all he would tell me is "$95 Diagnosis"

If it's a weld in type, no. And I doubt the flange or length is the same from a Honda to a Nissan if it's a bolt in.

I can get the flange and weld it on the other cat np, im jw if it would work, but i think im gonna buy one right now on ebay, then take it off after smog.
